Protective limb gear on eBay
« on: October 29, 2016, 11:27:45 AM »
Have seen dirt cheap Chinese plastic arm and leg/knee protectors on eBay. They seem to be something that would help whilst flying through the air! Gotta be better than nothing, even if a little restricting.
Has anyone used these cheap ones or looked at them on eBay...we are talking under $20 (£15) for both leg and arm sets. Not sure of postal rates for USA? But cheap for us in UK from China
What are your'e thoughts please?

Seen most Asian riders decked out like catchers for the Chicago Cubs...so there must be something to it.
Good if you regularly commute through a herd of Armadillos.

I'm in a farming area and those pesky cows always leave a little wet/damp muck on the roads, so will invest in some gear too.

What gear are you thinking?
They say....
1) Cover as much of your face & head as you want to keep.
2) Jacket armored in elbow, shoulder and back.
3) Leather gloves that will not fly off in a big off. (velcro wrist strap)
4) Over ankle  leather boots that will not fly off in a big etc.
5) Few do lower body protection. Sadly. (kevlar jeans with hip and knee armor avail. for @$100)
NEVER less than 1,2 ,3 any time you sit your scooter.
No flip flops or shorts....ever...unless you're  just washing  your scooter.
IMHO

Sorry Stig, haven't been on here for a good few days.
I always wear a fullface helmet, 2nd hand velcro gloves that seem good enough for the winter, a bargain for £3.50. Also ankle version of steel toe capped safety boots, (good protection around ankles) and they are very comfortable on the bike.
Am looking hard for a 2nd hand leather jacket, as a new one is silly money. I currently wear 3 layers of clothing for my upper body, then a thick fleece on top, but a leather jacket would be better.
Just got the limb set from China. I actually paid £9 for the set ($10 - $11).
Looks like they will give protection and are quite good quality for the money! The plastic bits are 1.5mm thick and would be ok for a few low speed falls or 1 high speed slide! They have independant shin/knee, elbow/forearm plastic parts, so they flex with limb movement. They have decent quality padding for comfort and 3 velcro straps per part makes them secure.
There are better but far higher priced products, but I'm on a budget....something is better than nothing!
Have also ordered some amoured waterproof pants. It gets real icy where I live, so taking no chances.
