Michelin Wear ?? Bangkok?
« on: November 14, 2016, 01:52:52 AM »
What's the thinking here ?? - just at 11,000 miles on these Michelin City Grips.
I still see some tread sipes on the rear, with a good bit of wear. No longer commuting in the wet.
The front looks good for many more miles.

No side wall cracking of any significance.

Good enough for another night ride to Bangkok I hope.

Yep, it is 'squaring' off a bit compared to the nicely rounded front tire, but not too bad.
Certainly by spring I will remove the wheel and take for a new City Grip.
Dealer wants $115 to replace tire.
$30 if I remove the wheel. I bought exhaust gaskets today off of ebay today - to be ready to remove the wheel. (fortunately a Brit seller mentioned the size - bought a couple from the States. Partsmonster O/O/S on them and do not tell size)
New rear every three years is OK.

I bought the British exhaust gaskets. They took about three weeks to arrive.  I have removed the rear tire on both of my Likes for tire changes. I ended up reusing the original gasket both times. I have the new ones as spares in case they fail.
P. S. I used blue loctite on every bolt when reinstalling.

Thanks  Lido,
Never took a wheel off...any tips?
Bearings needing replacement....or anything  else other than maybe the ex gasket need renewing during the procedure?
Best way to not need a spare part..is to have foresight  to obtain one, yes?!
Thanks - Stig

I didn't do anything to the bearings, except put a little grease on the back of the wheel.
Unbolting the swing arm, the lower part of the shock, caliper, exhaust. The exhaust will be in the way a bit, as it will be tied on by the sensor. I did not want to take a chance that something could break by taking it off.  The most work will be moving the tire hugger (unscrew both sides and try to move around) and shock out of the way to pull wheel off of axle. Same with getting it back on.
I removed the wheel and took it to the motorcycle dealer to change it.
It took me a while to do the first one. Doing the second tire after it was punctured, went quickly.
On the first tire change, I bought the wrong exhaust gasket, so I reused the original. I bought the right one later, but still reused the original because I could not find where I put it at the time.
