Kymco People 150 2009 Tires/tyres
« on: December 14, 2016, 07:15:08 AM »
I have the above mentioned scooter and it has the original Chinese tyres  ( i am from down under you see hence the spelling ) on it. Thats an 80/80/16 on the front and a 100/80/16 on the back. But trying to find a rear tyre here in Oz has been very difficult. My local bike shop said the only tyres he can access are a Pirelli front 80/80 and another Pirelli front 100/80 . He said although they have different tread patterns , it would basically work putting the larger front on the back wheel.  I have looked on the net and cannot find a back tyre to fit my scoot.  Another scooter dealer / mechanic said he has had the same problem with some of the Sym scooters. Sourcing tryes has proved to be difficult and sometimes some ad libbing has had to be done.

So my question is has anyone had to do this with their scoot and will it make much difference.

Thanks

Just a heads up,

Car tyres are written like this  80/80/16           Motorcycle tyres are written like this 80/80-16

If youre writing the wrong way in your long internet search for motor scooter tyres, that might be why you cant find any.

Hers what 30 seconds got me on the http://moto.michelin.com.au/AU/en/homepage.html web site

Front
michelin M45. 80/80-16  Load index 45  ( 165kg )    Speed rating S ( 180km/h )

Rear
michelin City Grip. 100/80 -16  Load index 50  ( 190kg )    Speed rating P  ( 150km/h )

Im sure they are very good tyres, but they are not the best tyres you can get for a motor scooter, like the Michelin Power Pure SC model with reinforced dual tread compound

http://moto.michelin.com.au/AU/en/tires/products/power-pure-sc.html

I got your motor scooters technical specifications from here

http://www.kymcousa.com/showroom/scooters/people150/specifications.html

But all this really applies to Australia

PS. your mechanic sounds retarted

Thanks for that tip Motorfoon , I do already have my bikes specs , the mechanic is not my mechanic  but a mechanic , i dont as yet have a mechanic , havent needed one to date as i have just had the bike for a year  . I did look at the Michelin site .  The Power Pures dont seem to come in a 16 inch . How did you determine the 100/80-16 City Grips were rear tyres. I cant seem to find where it differentiates between front and rear.  I spoke to another scooter dealer this morning who said this sized rear tyre can be hard to find but mentioned he could source a Sava tyre of that size for $145 fitted . Seeing as this is my first scooter tyre replacement in over 20 years ( since i had my last bike ) Im not sure if thats a reasonable price.

Well, as Australia slowly restarts after the annual Christmas shut down, if I were looking for tyres for my 2009 Kymco People 150cc motor scooter, heres what Id do.

Id find the tyres I want, saaaay,

Front
michelin M45. 80/80-16  Load index 45  ( 165kg )    Speed rating S ( 180km/h )

Rear
michelin City Grip. 100/80 -16  Load index 50  ( 190kg )    Speed rating P  ( 150km/h )

Then Id plug my post code in to the michelin website

Telephone call the 3 dealers I like the sound of

ask for prices / ask the age of the tyres!, if they have them in stock

I take it back about your mechanic sounding retarded, if hes really got you considering paying $145AUD supplied and fitted, for a Sava brand motor scooter tyre he just knows a mark when he sees one

http://dealer-locator.moto.michelin.com.au/AU/en/australia/byron-bay/1340060-desmo-headquarters

If they wanna play silly buggers with their prices as your in a small town, and they think theyre  the only game around, look in to having your tyres shipped in from Brisbane, QLD

I recommend
www.teammoto.com.au

Address
969 Ipswich Road, Moorooka, Brisbane, QLD 4105
Telephone (07) 3426 4404
