2008 People 150 - Replace Front & Rear Brakes?
« on: July 25, 2017, 01:34:03 PM »
I'm running through all the things I need to fix on a used 2008 People 150 I picked up a few days ago (w/ 10K miles) and it looks like both the front and the rear brakes will need to be replaced, along with the belt, potentially with other work on the levers etc.

Unfortunately there are no dealers in the area and although I searched the forum I'm not finding suggestions on where  to order replacement brake pads.
Besides Ebay and ideas? Hoping to buy within the US and have them arrive in a few days.

[Update]

After searching around the forum and online for a while I went over to kymcopartsmonster.com and unfortunately my parts listed "Call Us" I gave them a call and they ran my VIN and told me the exact information needed for my 2008 People 150. Out of curiosity I checked the prices against powersportswarehouse.com (both companies use the same exact backend and website, just different branding) and my order ended up being $24.12 cheaper if I bought it from powersportswarehouse.com

It seems like there are bad reviews for powersportswarehouse but as both sites claim 2 week shipping and one is free with slightly cheaper prices, it was worth a try.

Here's what I ordered for my 08 150 for future reference. Exact same parts on kymcopartsmonster

Did you look at the wear on the brake pads and shoes? On my People I have 14000 miles and I still have plenty left on the front pads and very little wear on the rears. Chances are you do not need rear shoes at all. They last a loooong time.

[Update]

The front shoes seem much better from riding it around but the rear ones not so much. I haven't inspected them with disassembly yet but based on when the brake is engaged the alignment is a few MM past the valley marking, and around the middle of the second ridge. Stopping power seems very poor with the rear brake even after tightening. Mileage is just over 11K and I too find it strange that it's not more responsive.

Ultimately this ride is for my GF and I'm not taking any chances, if it turns out that it's something else I'll just sit on the brakes until I need them.

Thanks Griffin. I guess the previous owner just loved to use the rear brakes. Good for you for looking out for your girlfriend sir!
