Using digital camera to service a scooter
« on: June 12, 2017, 10:48:08 AM »
I use my camera to record how things looked on my scooter before I  begin  mucking about.
Also, a camera can see into tight, dark spaces to record things.....like checking on brake pad thickness.
Picture too dark, or image too small ? : download camera to your desktop PC, and use editing to enlarge or brighten the image.
Not as good as that thing your physician  uses to check your plumbing....but decidedly more fun.
Also, you can use your camera to take a look at things under the exhaust.....finding engine leaks...or what's causing  that burning plastic smell down there.
(just don't drop your exhaust on the camera, like I  did..)

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

I use Stig's camera idea all the time. Did that washer go inside or outside on that axle? Used it just the other day when I was swapping bars on my KLR.

I find the camera a great way to put what I took apart back together right the first time. Being a guy I don't read instructions. I do better with Pictures.

Saw a thing on Facebook just before I fired them. It was a camera thingy on a flex cable that turned your smart phone into a borescope. Pretty neat idea and parallel to whatcha all talkin'about.

Great idea. Have a friend who manages a mega Yacht for a client and reports back to him with digital documentation regarding the mechanicals.

Yah,
I once signed up for the FB...
Never did much with it...  haven't really been back.
I kinda like pretending I might have a little bit of privacy left.
Silly me.

The borescope attachment sounds Great !
I shall look for those for one of my cameras.  Don't have one of those fancy phones.

I worked as a construction contractor for many years, photographed a lot of what I did during the stages of work, and sent weekly reports to absentee clients as work progressed to assure them their money was well spent.

...Thinking more on the subject, I don't know that any of them had a net linked webcam on their premises...
If I were an absentee owner of a property, I am sure I would set a system up for remote surveillance.

...I met an electrical contractor from Los Angeles who had been working on a renovation project in a pricey part of town.
His helper decided to have a pool party on the premises over the weekend.
$20k worth of damages was done by the time it was resolved !

Fortunately, nothing like that ever happened to me over the years.
Well, I had to buy a microwave once...  a helper decided to wipe small specs of paint from one using a rag dampened with acetone.
It smeared the silk screened lettering on the microwave, which was brand new.
Fortunately under $300.

I've had my share of doosey's too like wiring an attic fan, which we installed as a foundation fan for a pier and beam foundation to dry it out. Managed to wire into a 240v circuit and ran really fast for about 10 seconds until smoke came out of the motor. That was  100 buck mistake I made about a month ago. As a general contractor we get into some doosey's sometimes.

Aah...  Sparky !

It's a good trade to be in.

I was Not a licensed contractor so did a Lot of small repairs and fixits, though I did do many homes.

...The inner city IT guy who was called upon to repair everything at a moderate sized business...
He bought a brand spanking big screen TV and decided he and his son would add a receptacle in the front room to power it.
They went into the crawl space after turning off breakers for that part of the house and tapped into a 12-2w/g circuit, boxed it and drilled up through the wall to do a nice enough job.

Sat down on the sofa with beer in hand and powered up the new TV to hear 1 snap and a small wisp of smoke, (from what they say).

About this time it did occur to them the house had any number of 220v 20amp electric wall heaters, one of which they had tapped into.

I have no clue if that TV had been 110/220v switchable before they smoked it.

Some of us have some tales regarding sparky. Fried a double oven once on a kitchen remodel. New control panel was about 600 bucks.

Back to the topic at hand, installed these foundation vent walls yesterday on one of our pier and beam restoration projects. Sent these to our client.... happy as a clam

When I go on a trip, long or short I like to set up my GoPro to capture a stop action sequence. 1 frame every one or two seconds doesn't take up a lot of space on the camera. You get home and have a fast action movie of the whole trip and you can pick out and save the best individual still frames.
