Have just bought a Xciting 500 2007 model. I love the bike very smooth great for the passenger. I have one issue, starter motor turns over very slow, compared to other bikes I have had. Today 22 degrees C it turned over slowly as normal but would not start. How can I get it to turn over faster? And why won't it start.

22 C not exactly cold, but low battery voltage might be your issue. Have you measured the battery voltage and what it drops to during cranking?

That model is NOTORIOUS for starting issues, particularly when cold. The issue seems to be not enough cranking amps for the system. Get the biggest, beefiest, most powerful AGM  battery you can fit in it and keep it on a trickle charger anytime the scooter is not in use. I am sure some Xciting 500 owner will chime in here.

As an owner of a xc500 I can only say welcome to the best scooter group, the xc500 is tops.
Regarding cold starts, the gel battery is a Must! Also regulator, solenoid, decompression cam, and alternator must be checked out to eliminate them from being the problem.
 I have had all the mentioned items replaced, plus the starter, and best long term result was replacing alternator,and regulator, after doing the battery first. It has been trouble free starting for the last year now.

One thing I note is that I also sometimes have a slow starter movement when pressing the starter button. When I hear it is turning slowly, I immediately stop pressing starter button, wait a few secs, and press again. Then it turns fast and the engine always starts.

Make sure all the battery connections are clean and tight. You could also have some gummy brushes in the starter which if you are good at repairing things can be taken apart cleaned/sanded.

The carbed 2007 x500's do not have the same starting issues as the 2009 and above fuel injected models did. I have a true gel battery in mine. I would try a new battery, and if that does not work? Then the starter may be getting week? Check all connection first.

sissymary, what is the p/n for that gel battery?
I have a new battery in mine but I'm sure the guy I bought it from bought the cheapest one he could in order to sell the scoot.
Having the p/n saved in "notes" on my phone will help next time it needs a battery.

I have seen two issues with the fuel injected Xciting and hard starting. One there was supposedly some internal recall on early fuel injected models. An internal recall means they don't recall all of them but there is a fix for those complaining of hard cold starts. There was supposedly a replacement part with new fuel injection mapping. Second, there were supposedly some slow turning starting motors that may have caused hard starting in cold weather. I have read of some having the starter replaced with a faster spinning starter that fixed the problem. Both fixes were done under warranty. Have your dealer check with Kymco concerning these two items.
   I have the carb model and in cold weather it would sometimes not want to start. I learned that if I put the battery tender on at night, in cold weather, it will start first time on the coldest mornings, with the battery warm and fully charged

Just google true gel motorcycle battery. Sellers will pop up. A lithium battery would work out even better and last many years. E-BAY is a good place to work. Look under parts and accessories, xciting 500. Use mobile one 15/50 oil. Your bike will crank faster due to less friction.

I have not had my Xciting 500 (2008) for a few years by now, but I still feel the love for Kymco.. miss the bike dearly...
Anyway, while I have not experienced a slow starter motor, I did have my ECU reprogrammed at my dealer as well as the battery replaced with an AGM. Maybe see if that is available for you.
