the new Gold Wing
« on: October 25, 2017, 11:43:38 PM »
Reading the specs on the new big bike.....
It has a "walk" setting?
The reverse I  can understand; a fellow could rip the crotch out of his trousers while trying to frog-walk it backwards....but it is too heavy even to push a dead one forward?!

Just how big and heavy and expensive are we going to go before it would be more fun to tour the USA with the top down in a Miata? And they almost never fall over when you get out.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

It's actually a lot lighter than the previous models but still weighs a lot.  I think the walking setting is for tight spots and I can see where it would be handy on a bike that big where getting off and pushing wouldn't be much of an option.

The new Wing looks like an engineering marvel, but geez it sure looks too complicated (and expensive) for this shade-tree mechanic. One day I may get an old ST1100. Thats more my style.

is if I planned to do a lot of long distance traveling across the country. A lot.
Betting the low speed handling and required maintenance cost would be a nightmare.
Yes they are nice and a marvel but, a Gold Wing is kinda getting away from what I think of when I think "motorcycle".
Too costly, too heavy, and required maintenance cost would bankrupt me.
IMHO there better choices at a much lower cost.
