Like 200i 3 blinks code

hello Kymco community, i have a 2017 Like 200i that is throwing a 3 blink code... is there anyone who can help diagnose this? The scoot was running fine at about 50 mph and the bike died, cruised to a stop and the bike started again for about 30ish feet then died again. When getting it to a safe location tried to restart it and a bad smell was detected with a rich fuel smell to follow... thinking possibly the fuel filter???? Please help as this is my only mode of transpo...

The code- 3 blinks- indicates a problem with the throttle position sensor. A few of us with this scoot have experienced this issue but NOT a complete engine shut-down. It usually manifests itself as stuttering at mid throttle application. The TPS on this scoot is part of the ECU attached to the throttle body so cannot be replaced separately. If the scoot is still on warranty it can be checked by using the Kymco scanner (if your dealer has it). If off warranty you can find the throttle body on e-bay or purchase from Kymco for about $240. Hope this helps... Stig will be along soon to elaborate as he was one who had this issue with the TPS.

Hello Red----and welcome. Sorry we have to meet this way!

OK - if this scooter is still under its fully transferable 24 month warranty from when first registered for the road - You need to take it back to the Kymco dealer!

Will it start, now? Will it idle, now?

3 blinks does indeed point to the TPS (throttle position sensor) But, as noted, a failing TPS has never shut off a LIKE engine, or stranded the rider!

OK, simple things first, is the red Kill switch in the RUN position???

Any quick history with this scooter will be helpful - miles?, crashes?, other problems recently?, recently serviced by anyone? - ie. has engine, battery, etc. been touched by anyone recently?

One possible fix - "turn key on and wait for at least 5 seconds, do not start the engine, then key off - do this at least 3 or 4 times - waiting 5 seconds before switching off."

Any good?

Mr. Stig...

Finding out about the Warranty as this scooter was a gift in a time of need...

Kill switch is good but the bike is not at the same location were I'm currently...

Miles:~10K

Crashes: 4 months ago Fought a tumble weed and lost... dirt berm won... minor shell damage but bike was working properly.

Service: Oil changed every ~2K miles

Will try the possible fix and get back to you.

Key on, do you hear fuel pump come on - it's in the gas tank - maybe lift seat before turning on key to hear it better.
You DO have gas, yes?
Strong fuel smell? Not a gas line off? no  gas showing under the scooter?

Running along at speed - then dies - with strong fuel smell ….flooded?
Spark plug cap popped off, or loose, making intermittent connection now?

So we went and tried the quick fix you suggested, check light went off drove it down the road to a buddies house who has tools... ran like TRASH... check light is now showing the 3 Blinks again... just restarted it again to check code and now is 4 blinks with a super strong fuel smell. tried it again and not check light... Not sure where to start at this point other than what you mentioned above... Fuel Filter clogged maybe?

Clogged filter = no/low flow. Gas stink = lotsa flow in wrong place/ big leak! Also may be dumping into exhaust. Sniff for concentration = strongest smell.

A 4 blink code is also TPS related. 3 blinks TPS Adaptation Issue -4 blinks TPS Range Issue- whatever that means.

No, you can forget the filter. It's not your problem
You need to remove the underseat bucket. ...and take a look at things for that fuel smell.
Be careful!
The 2018's had a fuel line leak recall I believe.
Easy to fix....but bucket must come out and you'll probably see it, if leaking, up at tank top or down at the injector.
Take a look. Let us know.
Check spark plug cap for tightness while you're in there. Pull it off and snug it back on, firmly!

Sorry for not making myself clear about the fuel smell... it smells like fuel from the exsauhst when the bike is running i also checked fuel lines to make sure there is no leak...

Still within 24 mos. warranty?
Because Your issue of strong fuel smell is new to us for this scooter model.

Strong fuel smell at tail pipe.

Incomplete combustion suddenly?
Going to think out loud, here....


Valves out of adjustment? but usually shows itself by hard starting, irregular idle. Nothing sudden about it.
Timing chain jumped a tooth?
ECU faulting?
0/2 sensor, engine temp sensor failing or unplugged?

The fuel filter is in the tank with the fuel pump....they do not get clogged or leak.

Easiest fix is if it is a bad spark plug - Good spark when you ground the plug against the frame? If not - consider a new $7 NGK from autoparts store. Owner's manual for the correct plug.

This could be hard to solve from our distance - I have no good/easy ideas for a fix if it is not spark plug or plug connector related.

Checked the spark plug... still giving good spark...

Went and added 1/2 tank of Chevron Gas...

No code anymore but still seems to be running rough.

Was the ignition on for 5 seconds of then repeat 4 times a way of reseting the code?

Well, a way to reset the TPS.
You pulled the fuel pump from the tank?!
The filter on the lower end of the  pump looks like a charcoal filled white tea bag, yes?


Maybe you just got into some really watery gasoline?
Doubt gas makes much difference these days - but try running a tank of Shell 93 Premium ?

Lately - I have been inclined to ignore most of the d_mn blinking codes! But, I didn't say that out loud.
Because the LIKE200i runs like a bleedin' Swiss watch - unless really bad luck strikes.
So, no joy on the warranty?
