Best Action Cam mounting place on scooter...?
« on: April 05, 2018, 02:41:20 PM »
I bought a cheap chinese action cam (apeman a80) recently on Amazon. Just for the heck and to document some of my shorter trips around here.
Now I have already fixed one mounting pad to the top of the open face helmet.
But if you had to mount it also to the Like scooter which has a windshield already, where would you probably put it and why?
And always considering the possible vibrations.
Cheers,
Robo

Good day Robo,
Please consider mounting the camera so that we can see some of the scooter in all images.
A Honda Metropolitan rider in SoCal shot many fun to watch videos, with camera mounted low, on sides...we can watch the front suspension working!
Many of my favorite motorcycle videos are with camera on helmet, bike in lower image, wonderful scenery coming at us.

Nothing personal Robo - you know that.
It's just me, but...
I find eavesdropping on conversations on a city bus infinitely more interesting than anything a bike rider feels compelled to tell me in his video.
I can't do profanity, or a chatty moto video.

Thanks Tom for the reply. Don´t worry. Every input from you or the community is welcome and worth to be considered.
That´s why I am asking the infinite creative pool here.  :D ;)
No need for editing the original post. ;) I can handle the truth.  ;D

I totally agree with you on the first point you made. But how could this be managed best. Putting it on a selfie stick that is mounted sideways behind me to the crash bars? Left or right? Or somehow and somewhere near the Topbox? Left or right or center? And what about a good back view mounting position?
It should be mounted not too low in order to catch most of the scenery but also in an angle that it´s capable of catching some of the helmet, the scooter and or the dashboard. Or just with a cheststrap? Not ideal with a windshield. And what´s with all the swinging movements and vibrations then?

I also understand the criticallity of too much chat in videos. Some words here and there maybe are quit o.k. I guess, but too much bored talking might become annoying, that´s right. It always depends on the intention and purpose of the video.
If you had planned a instructors video for scooter riders for example, the explanations would for sure be the "a and o" of it.

And I am sure that some of you have already given this topic some thoughts and how to solve it best way possible. And with which accessiores.
That´s why I am asking. And I have already seen a few action cam videos on motorcycles.

I am looking for the golden cut, so to say.  8) ;) What do Hollywood Hills say here?  ;D ;D ;D
Cheers,
Robo

Might be wrong, but seems to me that moto videos from Europeans have very little chatting in them. Just wonderful scenery, some pleasant music...and some printed text when necessary or entertaining.
I do not think you can go wrong with your attachment points. Might end up trying several?

My helmet right side has the mount for the Gopro. Got some pretty good videos of short rides in various places but it was distracting with the head checks making the picture jump. Put a mount on the windscreen of first DT but was TOO steady and showed no scoot, panel or rider=no perspective.

Do NOT like narratives on video unless it has something relative to the scene!
