Larger Tire for Front People GTi 300
« on: January 14, 2013, 10:12:34 PM »
I am currently running a stock Maxxis 110/70 X 16 tire on my bike. I'd like to replace it with a Metzeler Sportec M3 in 130/70 X 16.  It's a similar tread design and is designed as a front tire. My question is does anyone know whether the current rim would be compatible with this larger tire?

Thanks.

..the wheel will fit...

..what you need to be concerned is the actual inflated dimensions of the tire, and whether your scoot physically has the clearance between forks, and beneath the front fender...

..i do recall someone here installing a 120, or 130 on their front on a People...not the 300g, but a regular ppl, just not sure what cc it was...

..do remember that it looked awesome, and they loved it!!

I have put a 120 80 16 on my people 250. I have a 130 on the rear and its not much wider. are you changing the rear size as well? I ask because I went from the 140 70 to a 130 90 when I did mine so the geometry of the suspension and steering would be very close to the same. And my tires do look awesome and the bigger tire out front improved the front end feel and grip, while the taller narrower rear made highway rides nicer, gave better ground clearence, and being narrower improved turn in. The are for heavy cruisers so I have put 10k miles on with tons of miles left. one issue is that you have to keep an eye on your brakes when up sizing. The added leverage of the tire on the disc wears pads faster. Good luck and add some pictures.

Thanks for the advice.

I've got plenty of clearance for a larger tire.  I'm going to keep the 140/70 16 on the rear.  I might remove the front fender and see how that looks. I think with a really big grippy tire up front it will ride smoother over out rough roads.  I'll post a picture and post my impressions when it's done.

Going for the "big wheel look"? I had a Kawasaki Vulcan 1500, it had a rear tire on the front.
You couldn't blow that bike off line, no matter what. I ended up getting a skinny tire for it (after
leaving the air pressure low for 1000 miles) and a tiny puff of wind would blow it offline.

So you might be onto something there...

True that scoot is for skinny little Asian kids.

 Here's a super sized rear tire for you;

I wonder if I can fit that on the front of my scoot?

   from www.bridgestone.com         110/90  16  rim width  2.15-300 mm.    OD-604 mm.
                                                130/90  16  rim- 3.50    mm.               OD. 634 mm.
the tire companies can give you the right rim to tire size ,  there is a standard measure they follow,. I stumble though the computer info. so I cant find the right sizes.,
