17mm Dellorto PHBG install on People 50
« on: May 22, 2018, 08:20:46 PM »
I bought a 2007 People a few years ago and have never been able to get it to start and run properly.  You can search my posts for more details.  I finally threw in the towel a couple of years ago. Didn't even try to work on it or ride it last year.

I decided to go after it again this summer and ordered a new carb and all the goodies to get it installed.

Since I'm sticking to 50cc, I decided to not go up to 19mm.  I have a Technigas Trek pipe on it. When it runs well, it revs up to 9200 rpm pretty easily.

Decided I'd document my install here.

I've ordered the AU262 two stroke atomizer for it and a range of main jets from 70 - 96.

I'd like to stick with the stock airbox with the snorkel cut out if there's an easy way to seal it to the Dellorto. Chime in if you know how to do that.

I'm not sure where to start with the main jet. I see 70cc kits with various air filters running from 83 to 94 jets. I'm in Denver at 5300 feet elevation, so I need to keep that in mind. But if 83 works for a 70cc, I'll probably start a couple of sized below that, maybe an 80.

I ordered a Trail Tech TTO CHT to check head temperatures. I'm sort of a geek as far as wanting more info.

Also ordered a choke cable so I can run a pull choke.

Carb will take a few weeks to get here. More to come.

Got the carb yesterday.  Opened it up. It already had the AU 262 2 stroke atomizer. Came with a 70 main jet and 60 starter jet. No markings on the idle jet or needle.

The air horn is too big for my People so I ordered a 36mm one from Treatland.

Here's a link to the carb I bought. Cost $32 with shipping. I've read that these Chinese knockoffs can have stray machining bits inside, so I've taken it apart and cleaned it out. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/17mm-Racing-Carburetor-Carb-For-Dellorto-PHBG-DS-Black/32259471413.html?ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_1_10152_10151_10065_10344_10068_10130_10324_10342_10547_10325_10343_10546_5722611_10340_10548_10341_10545_10696_5722911_5722811_5722711_10084_10083_10618_10307_10059_100031_10103_10624_10623_10622_10621_10620_5722511,searchweb201603_19,ppcSwitch_3&algo_expid=4c287cd9-5b3d-4e95-936d-0abb27eee4bc-0&algo_pvid=4c287cd9-5b3d-4e95-936d-0abb27eee4bc&priceBeautifyAB=0

Before I install it, I want to do a compression test and leakdown test.  More to come.
