Hi guys. I have an 09 xciting 500 with 7,000 miles. It still has its original coolant. Do you think i need to change it? Also has anyone done it...difficult?? Thanks for your time everyone!

Several posts on this for different Kymco models. All liquid cooled procedures about the same. I recall De dee's technique stands out for some reason...the biggest problem seems to be the "burp" to get rid of air trapped. I think he had a good way to do that.

I vote for changing it. Coolant and brake fluid seem to be the fluids least likely to be properly replaced by previous owners. The coolant does more than cool the engine: it has additives that prevent engine deterioration. Keep an eye on your temp gauge after the change to make sure you don't have air pockets.

Don't worry, I have about 40,000 miles on mine. No issues. Would you change it in your car at 7K? Think about it. :-*

Sissy implies that it's only about the miles ridden that determines when to change coolant. All the maintenance manuals I've read specify a time limit as well, so i assume the stuff deteriorates over time even if you don't put miles on your scoot. I just read my GV 250 manual: "Replace coolant every year or 10,000 km". I believe they mean "whichever comes first".

Per the XC500 owner's manual, inspect every 8,000 miles, and change at 24,000 miles.  So, extract some and visually inspect it for contamination - if it looks ok, good for another 8,000 miles, if it looks contaminated, check the water pump seals (or the cylinder gaskets) and replace.

They make test strips to check the additives in car antifreeze. Perhaps your auto mechanic has some and will check it for you. Won’t hurt to ask. That way you’ll be sure.
