Another good reason to ride out at 5:30am - if you can:
Beat the heat on these 100 degree heat index days.
I've got a butter smooth, lightly traveled road through well kept farms and past country homes - into and over small misty valleys, often with marked temperature changes. Sometimes almost chilly in my mesh jacket.

It's not full dark, so the visibility is no problem - spotted that trio of crossing raccoons easily. And the odd dumb juvenile squirrel.

(Nice time to ponder things - like that lucky member who had a long career teaching music to youngsters. Teaching kids is a terrifically important job. Right up there with the military, the clergy, medicos, and first responders, in my book.)

Afterwards....You've the whole day to do some serious goofing off!

I agree - I have to leave for Nottingham at 0545 on the days I work there, and there's nothing quite like climbing the Staffs Moors into Derbyshire before it turns 7AM, whilst it is still cool and the road is largely empty

87 degrees in my apartment last Tuesday when I got home. Took the scooter to work next day July 4th to avoid the traffic leaving our park and what a morning ride it was through the country side backroads to work.

This morning. Im wearing a sweater and wind breaker.

Riding in the heat just isn't fun, two days this week riding home in temps between 115-118* F.

Since moving to Alabama I've gotten used to riding in hot weather, though I'll admit to not wearing a jacket most times...  Headed up to our camp in Maine this week and just packed my heavy gloves and jacket.  Forgot them last year and FROZE.  Didn't keep me from riding, though!
