Don’t overthink it man. To be honest, my initial gut feeling if money is not an issue and you don’t have a burning desire to do it yourself is to simply go to the dealer for the FIRST service. You can judge a lot from a dealership just by how they handle that.  Have them to perform ONLY the services recommended by Kymco  in the owner’s manual. It seems as if they’ve already attempted to establish good will when they made the sale. That may indicate that they are decent people. A person shouldn’t be treated as a crook until they’ve shown that they are a crook. A reputable dealer will do a courtesy inspection to insure everything is still tight.
If you are pleased, then you can return as needed or desired. If not, simply don’t use them again unless absolutely necessary.

That’s just my two cents.

Agreed.
My dealer was about to overcharge me for a first service - but only because they didn't know that my panels were much simpler
than the average scooter. Apparently Kymco did not provide them with a shop-time book.
A Honda PCX, for sale next to the LIKE does take forever to get to the valves. Same with the nearby Burgmans, and Forzas.
This is what can happen when our only options are to buy from a mega motorcycle dealer.
At a scooter shop that wouldn't happen.

Forbes and Stig:

You guys make perfect sense in your inimitable wisdom and valued experience.

Coupled with the fact that I am having considerable difficulty finding anyone who has parts for a 2018, I may just have them do it. I even had someone tell me "There's no such scooter. They don't make a 400." I won't say who it is, but it really surprised me.

I have a couple of days to think about it before I have to commit.

I bought my first scooter, a used Kymco xciting 250 from a scooter dealer. I found them to be very approachable. I did the fluid services and belt changes myself , as well as replacing the stator. But had I not been a mechanic, I would have felt comfortable with them doing the work based on some other things they did and their reasonable hourly labor rate.

On the other hand, I bought my Majesty from a Yamaha dealer.  They wanted to charge an OUTRAGEOUS fee for my first service. 200+ I believe. That consisted of Oil and filter and rear end fluid change and inspection to make sure everything was still tight. (which would have been their fault if it wasn’t) . No other services were due. I wouldn’t have had them do it even if I’d had the money. My fuel gauge was inaccurate. So I wanted them to check it under warranty. They said that it would take 3 DAYS just to CHECK it! Unfortunately, I wrecked it before I got a chance to take it back. If I’d ever needed non-warranty repair that I couldn’t do myself, I would have taken it to my KYMCO dealer.

My first service was done at no charge it was included  in the very fair purchase price, The shop was a scooter and ATV only dealer with many years of experience. They changed oil and checked the valve clearance as well as seeing to the tightness of the suspension bolts. My scoot is still running great after 6 years of service. I had to take over maintenance after 2 years because my dealer had to close due to family issues but I never doubted their commitment to the brands they carried (Genuine Kymco, and TGB). Thanks Albany Powersports, Albany Oregon.

I was supposed to do my 600mi Service this past week, but I got an email from the parts folks at my dealer. Turns out that my oil filter is still in Taiwan. Apparently, no one in the entire US has one of these in stock, and the bike is so new that there are none available anywhere else except at the "home office" so to speak.

So, I'll be waiting until my filter comes in.

Geese.  That sucks.  You’d think with a common maintenance part that is necessary they would’ve already had them here

ET, My dealer got 2 oil filters for the 400 in about a week and 1/2. Try calling Razee's Motorcycle shop and I am sure they can order to a couple. Make sure to ask them for the aluminum gaskets for the oil plug.

Thanks for the info, Leo... Unfortunately, I don't "call" anyone. I don't do business over the telephone.
