Installing LED running lights in LIKE200i
« on: August 03, 2018, 02:49:53 PM »
First - go in and tell your significant others that you love them. Because, after wrestling for 1/2 hr to re-fit each new bulb you are not going to like anybody!

I used the AMBER bulb.

In the glove box...
Remove the two screws. Then stick screwdriver in one of the holes of this black panel and pull panel towards the center of the scooter to release it. (pull right panel towards the left. Pull left panel towards the right)

You'll have this...

Turn the front wheel away - reach under here and grab the rubber base of the bulb and pull it gently out. Wiggle, pull, wiggle - gently on the rubber base.
I use 2 finger tips and pinch it out.

Feel around - find the wire that has your bulb on it.
Bring the bulb up through the glove box opening.
Replace this bulb with your LED. Turn on key to insure it's connected in there.

Now the tricky bit. Fish the new bulb back to the socket opening, reach under and push it back into the hole (with your two finger tips)
I use a little lube on the rubber collar of the bulb holder to ease the re-install.

Take your time - insure that you don't push the bulb out of its holder - turn on the key to insure bulb lights!

I swear - I'd rather check the valves than do this bulb replace! Getting that little sucker back in there with my Easter Ham sized hands is not fun.

If anyone has found a easier way - please report it here!

Yeah, it's bright!

Photo has a caption with some info...bought from SuperBright.
Rode with them before sunrise today...they actually light up down in front of the scoot. If these start blinking, like the cheap ebay ones did, I'll yank 'em in a heartbeat and go back to my bulbs forever!.

It's a bit of a process to get to the headlight bulb: remove mirrors, drop loose the turn signals, crack open the head cover panel.

While you're in there, it is a good idea to take a look at and/or renew your brake fluid.

Follow along here, and you will be looking at the rear of the headlight bulb & housing...…..

After you're looking at the back of the headlight: unplug it, remove rubber cover, then.....

Yeah it’s not prying all that easy.  I’m afraid to break it.   Super stiff and tight.

Slip your thin tool in there, then press down and  pull back the rear half of the clam shell cover simultaneously with your fingers as you gently pry up of the front half. Press down and pry up right on that seam to unlock the 3 tabs (one center, 1 ea. side)

WIDE thin tool to spread the load, so no chipping.

When I did my running lights, I was thinking the whole time, "how did Stig get his fingers to reach these darn bulbs?"
I ended up taking off the front cover because I could not reach them. I have been thinking of changing out the clear LEDs to amber, like yours.

Oh I’m sure.  Lol.   Still couldn’t get it off Stig.  I’ll try again another time.   Super tight and again, I’m afraid to break something.   Plastic.

One of you members showed me how to do it.....or was it a youtube? Out was easy.....back in was not fun. These dang LEDs had better not burn out. ...the incandescent bulbs were burning just fine! But, these new things ARE brighter.

Unclipping required a pretty good squeeze of the rear half, while lifting the front with a blade.
Maybe hair dryer to warm the panels?
I know exactly what you mean regarding concern for the panels.
