What kind of armor do you use
« on: August 29, 2018, 12:33:53 AM »
Talking about the pads in the five common areas of your motorcycle jacket.
What kind do you have in there? (KLIM D30 T5 every ride)

Open-face, modular, or full-face helmet? (Modular)

Do you always wear leather gloves?  (Yes)

Ride in sneakers or boots? (Boots)

Jeans or riding pants? (Slider Kevlar jeans with knee/hip D30)

Stig

You ever feel dopey wearing all that on a scooter? (Not any longer)

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Got a pants/jacket combo at Cycle Gear with armor knees, elbows (gotta check elsewhere) suit up every ride. Modular brain bucket every ride. Do not feel 'dices any bit. Look at other riders in soft hats and shorts hoping the never go down.

I'm guilty of the hoping I never go down strategy.

Used to not wear a helmet in town, but these days I'm wearing a full face helmet at all times.

After years of riding, I finally did get a proper jacket to help tolerate the cold -- once I moved away from the Northeast, to the south. I actually took the armor out because it's too bulky, especially considering it's also my all purpose jacket.

I've very rarely worn it in the southern heat though. It's simply too hot. Same with gloves, only when it gets cold out.

I've gotten to thinking that I should try to find a mesh jacket one day and see if that's tolerable. But at the moment, I don't have that kind of money to spare.

End of riding season might have some easier prices on mesh jackets. Or gently used from ebay?
Mesh is amazing when you're moving even a little bit. ...nothing's nice at a long light!

Full face modular Helmet with a LED light in the back and some reflective tape.

Armored jacket on elbows, shoulders and spine with reflective strips around mid-section, back and upper arms.

Riding gloves with protection for knuckles, and palm, Fingers can interface with phone and touchscreens.

Over the ankles boots/shoes. Not official motorcycle boots.

I've yet to invest in riding pants, but have some reinforced jeans.

on the scoot I always wear an armored jacket (leather, mesh or textile, depends on the weather / season), full face helmet, leather motorcycle gloves, kevlar jeans and moto shoes (armored high tops).

On the motorcycle I add in Bohn armored underlayer (knee/shin/ thigh/hip / tailbone armor) under my textile pants (mesh or solid, depending on the season) and Dianese motorcycle boots.

Do I feel a little silly all armored up on the scooter? Yeah, sometimes...but I still don't really care...I have 2 young daughters and I want to be around to watch them grow up.

forgot to mention that new for this riding season I started wearing one of those high tech long sleeve base layers..Rukka is the brand. It is amazing in hot weather as it somehow pulls the sweat and heat away from you if there is ANY air movement. Even walking around the house I can feel it cooling me down.

I think there are a lot of different brands available...but I would highly recommend one of these...and combined with a mesh armored jacket, it makes hot weather riding enjoyable.

You have a link for the LED light you have mounted on your helmet?
