I have a quart of Amsoil 20w-50 v-4 synthetic motorcycle oil sitting around taking up space on my shelf. I was thinking of using it for my next oil change on my GV 250. Any imput would be appreciated.
20W-50 is thick oil that does not thin out at high temps, which is great for older engines with worn seals.
I would not recommend it for a new machine, and especially, I would not use it during winter because it does not flow in the cold as it should.
If you absolutely want to use it, you should not experience any problems now (providing it's summer now in your neck of woods
), but it would be wise to use 10W- or 0W- oil for winter driving when the temps fall down, especially if you ride sub zero like many of us.
I am proud how smart and elaborate reply I just wrote!
