Regular rural night rider
« on: September 19, 2018, 11:37:33 AM »
Bit of mist, some fog and a lot of black on my ride today. Usually riding in full dark, well before sunrise.
I really appreciate the striping done in my county....nice fresh center stripes and that nice white stripe on the road edges!
Comes into play when all those approaching cars fail to dip their lights!
Whole different road when I  ride into the next county!....but at my typical night cruising speed of less than 30mph (actual) it is not a problem, nor are my fellow mammals.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

I keep thinking I should do more riding at night... no traffic, cool, quiet. Just gotta watch for Bambi.

I used to like night riding when I lived in the northeast US, both in my tiny city and in the woods.

When I lived in Fort Worth, the roads were out to kill me: uneven roads in terrible condition, barely visible markings (no lines, just dingy circles). One time at night, I got caught in an uneven section and my little bike started severely oscillating side to side. I put an end to it then, and never got back into it since.

I used to ride at night home through Devon countryside, 12 miles a day through the back lanes.

When I first met my other half I used to come home from hers at 11 or midnight each evening, and that was also a wonderful 12 mile blast home, with winding roads along the Cornish coast.

Happy memories. I find the night focuses me a bit better - the ring of light on the road keeps me really sharp on the road ahead.

I do remember fitting two CREE LED spots to my (long deceased) Chinese work commuter, and how amazing that was, in the tight lanes with the trees bearing over, but the road in front of me lit up like daylight!
