Breaking in my new Like 200
« on: March 17, 2019, 01:40:41 AM »
So I've bought myself a 2018 Kymco Like 200 and in reading the manual, I'm instructed to only ride 1/2 throttle ( 38 mph) for the first 600 miles.
I've noticed that in trying to determine the speed of half throttle and WFO is probably about 20 mph if the Like top speed is just over 60.
Has anyone had any problems or suggestions for what speed rather than 1/2 throttle?
Seems like the second half of the throttle isn't much difference.

The rule of half throttle really is just a guide line. The process of break in involves smooth acceleration rather than grabbing a big hand-full of throttle. When cruising at speed vary the rpms and throttle and don't stay at any speed too long. You will find that as the miles increase the engine will feel more free and less stressed. My Like really came into it's own after about 1K miles and has run faultlessly since. Enjoy your new scoot it's a gem!

It's been 6 yrs since I was working through the LIKE's break-in period - but I remember looking for roads with traffic that would allow me to load and unload the throttle....without getting nailed from behind!
My kids call me Capt. Slow....and as such it was a few thousand miles before I ever looked for the scoot's top speed.
I'm one who wanted the "delivery oil" out ASAP.
So changed to AMSOIL* Scooter Oil after @60 miles.
I recommend keeping it below 40mph, practice loading and unloading the engine.
...the 600 miles will pass before you know it.

*knowing zip about scooters, I asked my salesman to recommend a good oil for my new scooter. He of course pointed me to quarts of their most expensive oil!

Thank you for your responses, this forum is very helpful. Under 40 mph feels safe and yes I'm calculating how long it will take to get to 600 miles.

My 2014 200i is finally close to be broken in then! I just bought it and it only had 250 miles on it. The guy that had it thought he would ride it but obviously never did. It was kept in a garage covered. I ordered a new battery as it set for so long I could not get it to take a charge even with a "smart charger". Glad I found this forum. Thanks everyone.
