2008 Mongoose 90 speed limiter
« on: June 24, 2011, 04:55:28 PM »
Hi All,

I am brand new to this page - and hope I am posting this in the right section.

I just purchased a new (leftover) 2008 Mongoose 90 for my son.  I have read some things about removing the speed limiter(s), but would like some additional information.  I will remove the "throttle screw" and I understand that there is a spacer or a bearing that needs to be removed from the transmission/clutch.  I have also read about cutting the green wire to the cdi box under the seat.

My questions are
1. Am I correct so far?
2. Does anyone have any additional information about removing the spacer and/or bearing?
3. Should I simply cut and tape off the "green wire" or is there something more I may need to do?  I have read that cutting the green wire may cause it not to start.

Any/all information is appreciated.

Thanks

Hello,
I know this is old but I'm having a hard time getting confirmation also. Did cutting the green wire do you any good?
I have a 2012 and when testing the green wire in the CDI it is a ground wire.
We've already pulled out the speed limiter bushing in the clutch and the throttle screw.

Thank you

If it's revving all the way up, there isn't any electronic speed limiter. Usually with Kymco CDIs you have to cut into the plastic at a certain spot to deregulate them, if they are regulated. Unless you know specifically that the exact model of quad you own does have an electronic speed limiter and how to eliminate it, it isn't a good idea to start cutting wires or the cdi. It usually doesn't end well or cheap.
Been riding for a very long time.
