broken fins on variator plate
« on: June 02, 2019, 06:15:36 PM »
Got my rollers, sliders and belt installed but I broke a few fins on the face plate. Will this throw off the balance and would it be best to let 'er sit until I get replacement face plate?

Depends on what fins where were broken. You were using the fins to hold the pulley from turning to loosen/tighten the nut? That's what those two holes are for! Make a tool like in the picture....

fins were to the ones next to the holed fins as I was trying to use the bulk size of the holed fins to hold my flat head screw driver. the other two times I had the face plate off both times I used my impact and never had to brace against the fins but impact was not available today so I just went with tried and true armstrong. So I guess I'll just break off the fins 180' from the broken ones to balance out the face plate.

Yeah, but I might be ordering a new part...…Get the balance not just right might be looking at new bearings as well?

way ahead of you Stig....part ordered Saturday and shipped this morning, should have it by midweek and be running by the weekened. While there I went ahead and ordered OEM sliders and rollers for later. I will not ride it until then as the possibility of damage to other parts is too great to chance. Even found the pulley clamp on ebay but as long as I have an impact there wont be a need for any bracing of the pulley. Once again lack of patience has bit me in the bum.
