Vario, belt and clutchsprings change
« on: September 03, 2010, 03:25:26 PM »
I recently changed the vario, belt and clutchsprings on my Xciting 500 (2006) with Malossi parts  ;D

It changes your scoot dramatically I think. Completely different ride.

The trick is that the engine revs up to 7000 rpm's almost instantly and makes you take off very fast. I also had the clutchsprings changed to the stiffer white ones Malossi offers.
The good thing is that Rpm's are NEVER above 7000 rpm's; it'll never go in the red. Malossi did a great job on that I think.
The top-end is just slightly (!) lower. I clocked it about 155 km p/h.
Don't notice any change in gpm.

I love the new setup. Had it on my Burgman 400 also for about 15.000 miles, so I knew what it would do to the Xciting 500.
It's much more responsive and few bikes can keep up with you now at traffic-lights   :-*

The Dr. Pulley sliding weights (2822) are for sale. They work fine and are a very cheap and effective solution for those who seek more acceleration, but this new setup is just better.
The sliding weights were used for about 500 miles. Let me know if you are interested.

same set-up here minus the clutch springs. Still waiting for it to arrive.

You said top speed is lower? Last time I rode mine top was 180kph rpm was at 7k. 09 model carb.

Have you tried using the other clutch springs? Also planning on replacing the malossi rollers with dr. Pulley sliders.

Hi drifter. No didn't try them. I want to spare the clutch a little :)

Please let me know if the dr. Pulley sliders work better!

just got the dr. Pulley backplate sliders and slider weights. Will install them tom.

Finished replacing the diaphragm again for the 2nd time and man i love the torque! This is the 1st time I tried the malossi pulley with a new diaphragm.

Great, to hear. Tell me what you mean by 'replacing the diaphragm' and how it changes the torque.
Thanks

Guile, How would you compaire the Burg 400 to the Xciting? Up and downs, mpg, rpm etc. I had a 2007 Xciting and  am looking to replace it with a FI one or a Burg400.   Thanks

when the diaphragm is swollen you will notice a drop in accelaration and there is a delay at wot and when you're past 100kph then release th throttle gas up again it will not speed up.

Installed the sliders on the malossi vario! Way better than the stock 20g of the malossi interms of accelaration but now exceeds the 7k rpm. Not sure about top speed if it will decrease.

Btw installed 20g sliders if top speed will be lower nest is to try the 24g sliders.
