Windshields 2019 XTown 300 i ABS
« on: August 14, 2019, 04:24:35 PM »
On my 11th new maxi scooter since 1990----over 400,000 miles with then----big problem for me has always been head buffeting, caused by tip of your nose being too far from tip of shield.

I ride with 3/4 helmet (get 2 new every year) long bill, safety glasses, foam ear plugs....like calm air about head, probably almost impossible with distance from nose to tip of shield.....but I try, having spent well over $5000 on after market shields!

Below are result with XTown 300i:

Stock sucks

Stock with bolted on Laminar Lip=a little better, but screen is too narrow for real cold weather protection.

Puig Touring (available from Kymco), cut 4 inches for safe see over=ok.  This shield with bolted on Laminar Lip as good as it is going to get.  Works ok for me, but not perfect....my baseline is Heinrich handlebar fairing and lowers, this equals quiet/buffet free riding in all weathers on BMW air cooled twin.

My take on all of this---people in the industry must not ride, including designers!

Scooter: Vespa, both old and new can be made buffet free with right choice of windshield and proper/safe shield height, beause nose is close to tip of shield--8-12 inches.  Had 4 Vespas in the past.  Now cost too high and no dealers in N. America.
