My Liberty150i is out of action
« on: August 31, 2019, 11:37:28 AM »
.....for a few days waiting for a part.
Totally my fault. While replacing the valve cover during last valve check the cover gasket fell out of a portion of its groove. Resulted in small oil leak.
When I  checked, the gasket was cut.
The two spare "valve cover" gaskets I'd purchased 2 yrs ago, turned out to be cooling shroud gaskets!
Next week will receive 3 proper ones.
Had same trouble but with a falling belt cover gasket during 1st belt serv. on my other scooter, the LIKE200iLX, yrs ago.
Finally used thin smear of auto weather strip adhesive to keep gasket in place while wrestling cover back on.
Will now do same with this little Piaggio gasket.
Difficult to reposition cover past Liberty's hoses...meanwhile gasket falls out of groove!
Have done 3 valve checks to date - with only this one mistake.
Emailed TX dealer yesterday, part was in mail by noon. (my closest Vespa dealer is 55 miles away)
So, loving the LIKE200I instead, this morning!

You know the old mechanics's trick of using wheel bearing grease to stick gaskets in place while assembling, right?

Loving the LIKE200I this morning!

I don't get it.  The heading says "Liberty 150i", bu you're discussing a "LIKE200i".  Is the "Liberty 150i" a Kymco?  So how do you get Kymco Like200i parts from a Vespa dealer?  Can you tell us how to sort out this confused story?

Edited my original post (written at sidewalk table)- hope it is less confusing now.

Was that a paper gasket or the neoprene-type gasket?
