Windshields---still learning
« on: March 15, 2020, 03:26:24 PM »
After 65 years of riding/over 1.5 million 2 wheel miles....I am still learning......and wasting money!  My 2019 XTown 300I with Puig Touring screen and bolted on Laminar Lip bolted on-----been having rear steering/square rear tire feeling with this combo. Since screen is frame bolted/mounted there are no inputs to steering directly, but to frame of bike. Puig screen is wider, maybe top a little farther from rider and flows air differently.   Result=funny feeling at times, maybe bad feeling in some cornering situations.

Yesterday, removed Puig, installed stock shield with Laminar Lip bolted on....then even with worn tires, stability returned.....protection is a little less because stock is  narrow, but with Lip I have proper shield height and look over. Light weight Bestem $40 box on rear.

In US, we have no laws assuring added on accessories are tested and safe----owner is free to kill himself. I like the German way where accessory (shields) must be tested and approved and entered in your title book

I am probably going to stick with the stock and Lip combo I now have----on my 11th Maxi Scooter, since 1990, all have the same air management problem....you nose is too far from tip of shield.  My base line for 2 wheel comfort going down the road is BMW air cooled twin with German Heinrich uppers and lower lowers=good air management in all weathers---for scooters, Vespa with right height windshield ( your nose is close to tip of shield).

One comment on Kymco---probably the best windshield mounting system on the market---have purchased new Honda/Suzuki/Yamaha/Dealim/Kymco scooters.
