Smaller the scooter the more likely to be used?
« on: March 28, 2020, 07:37:37 PM »
Was just thinking about my use of the scooter fleet. When I need a part at the hardware store or fast food I usually take one of the 150's.  Easy to get out of shed and to run around on. Highway driving I always opt for the larger scooters.  The 150's get used the most in my case.

I noticed that several others on the forum have a collection of scooters. What are your thoughts ?

I just went to the drug store to pick up a scrip, on my K-Pipe.  I bought it specifically for that purpose, keepin miles off my V-strom that eats tires, and my Silverado, that drinks gas

I have 4 scooters (150cc gy6,  250cc carbureted, 300cc fuel injected, and 330cc fuel injected),  and my Downtown gets used the most.  That might change when I get the BV350 in service, but for now  I am doing longer rides on the DT (over 40 miles) and shorter rides on the Reflex.  The 150cc chinese scooter gets ridden around the neighborhood once or twice a month.  When I get older and weaker a may move to a 150cc class scooter that puts out on the 12+HP range. But for now, I can push any of these around pretty quickly and easily.

The Vino 50 in town, the GV 250's for slightly longer shopping trips on main roads, the DT 300i for two up's with GF.

We use the 150's for errands in town and they fit in the back of the pickup truck when we are towing the camper, so they get used for rides when camping such as going places where it is difficult park the truck (3/4T diesel, extended cab, 8ft bed).

Otherwise for general riding and trips the 250's are used.  I had been using the DT200 to get some mileage on it and used to it prior to running it in the Scooter Cannonball 2020 but that event looks high doubtful.

You brought up a good point. My xciting's are heavy and difficult to load in the back of the truck to take with the RV. The 150's are great around  the campground and for errands instead of taking the Diesel

What speed do you run ? My people 150 seems 45mph  is the sweet spot with a top speed of 62mph  on the overly optimistic speedometer.

I have normally owned 4 bikes the last several years.  I'm currently down to 3.  At least one of those bikes has always been a 150cc scooter.  I ride my 150 more often that all of my other bikes combined.  Last year I also rode more miles on my 150 than any of my other bikes.  Currently my 150 is in the shop and I find that I am riding much less frequently although some of that is due to the CV.

I got my K-Pipe up to 58 once, it cruises along 40-45 easily as long as grades don't get steeper than 5%, gotta pin it to really go faster, doesn't seem worthwhile, taking it easy, is sips fuel 100mpg+, but try to go faster, and it quickly drops to 80mpg or less

I don't feel comfortable riding on roads with speed limits faster than 45, so primary routes are out for me, even secondary state highways scare me, I stick to town roads as much as possible, 35mph speed limit, where average speeds are 45±

anywhere far away or can't get there reasonably without state highways... the V-strom comes out

I split the riding time/mileage between my scooters pretty much equally.
A 163cc and a 279cc.
Or, a 163cc and a 399cc.
Now, 163cc and a 155cc.

They all took turns going for coffee.
Perhaps due to my frugalness - putting equal wear and tear on 'em.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Honest answer?  About 90% of my riding is on the scooter now, the bike is for high days and holidays!
