Vespa every 6K: belt, rollers, oil & valves !!
« on: June 04, 2020, 10:30:44 PM »
Oil changes. valve check and new belt go hand-in-hand.
Shudder to think what the parts & nearly 3 hrs of labor would be for this dealer service every 6,000 miles!

Maybe best to sell it at 5,900 miles.....

But he won't replace a ("very expensive") $13.99 Iridium plug after dropping the exhaust and the engine to get at the valves ??

I would not walk across the street for a Vespa....that is a little too strong but they ARE a little pricey for an undersized engine that is kinda weak. But, hey! If you want traditional for putting, that's okay! Those Denver front range Vespa riders are no slouches! They seriously ride!

After the few scrapes I have had I would never want a metal scooter. Plastic panels are easy to fix if cracked.
Become the best you can with what you have.

While not my cup of tea there's a market for them and used ones seem to retain their value. Myself I think Kymco is good value for the money. I would like a new BMW scooter but 12k. All my Kymco collection would not equal that. Besides I beleive Kymco builds the motor for BMW scooters.

Having had 4 Vespas, including Chao, 5----two strokes---I liked, they were priced right, worked well in daily use---you usually fixed them when something broke----my last new Vespa a PX150,a 1984 US model,, purchased from Army PX Pirmasens Germany about --87-88...as this was left over---$400.  I liked it better than my PX200---the 150 ran smoother.

Today in US, new 300 with Givi rear rack/box, front luggage rack, windshield (cut to safe see over height) would cost me near $9000 out the door----dealer network weak in US  And then the 6,000 mile belt change, ride 30,000 miles a year, and you have lot of money in belt changes----with over 400,000 miles of rubber band drive scooter experience, I get about 15,000 miles out of drive belt (am hoping the OEM belt on my 2019 XTown 300i goes that far!)

Best feature of Vespas  for me----right height windshield can be look over and provide buffet free ride---something the other maxi scooters currently cannot (I am on 11th new one since 1990) But their gas tanks are small, require raising seat to fill (real pain when bag secured on passenger seat)
