DEER Piaggio.....keeping 6' social distancing
« on: March 30, 2020, 05:41:21 PM »
Stopped for a photo here.....

While I was scratching, and playing with the camera....

Totally unimpressed by a Martian in a giant yellow helmet.....

The Liberty has the new E-4 damped exhaust so they weren't put off by my running scooter.
Probably not possible if I'd had one of those generic Krap-ovitch cans flatulating away on my scooter.

I counted 7 more deer in the brush next to me.

That anything like a "Flatulating Cannon?" Like they use on small Honda cars to make them really annoying?

"Deer" Piaggio?  Yup, see what you did there Stig.  And these pics of scoots out on the open road are making us in lockdown Britain very jealous.

Deer can be dangerous if you ride a lot out of the city.   In over 1.5 million miles, I have had several close ones in rural US/France and Germany----worst=direct strike in Switzerland, 1990, speed at 35 mph going uphill---deer jumped right in front, missed him, did not see second one--hit him, killed him, ran over him, centerstand skinned him----hurt my neck which still can hurt today.....Bike, Honda XBR500, did not go down.  Nice to pay attention when you are in deer country

If I see any deer I slow down for its relatives which are sure to be around.

I hit one and have only logged 12,000km but mostly on East Tennessee back roads. I was cruising at 45-50mph and saw a group on the right. Just when I looked at them one crossed from the left and drove all the plastic panels on the front of my agility 6 inches back into the steering column. had to use 250 zip ties to stitch it all back. Broke the poor deer's back over the steering tube and left wads of hair stuck in the plastic.

Moral of the story is, I now appropriately respect what 100 pounds of resistance can do to my little Mopediah.

boy, that pic illustrates just how many deer are lurking in the shadows along those peaceful country roads! I usually honk and flip them the bird when I see by the road...doesn't phase them but makes me feel a little better!

A few years ago I stopped to have a chat with these youngsters. But they weren't having it.

Had a close encounter with a bear cub while riding the burger last year.
Didn't get a pic though since I was busy braking then dodging.

Due to the sound of a barking dog up the hill I suspect the cub found itself facing the home defense force without backup(mom), & determined discretion was the only part of valor under the circumstance.
