Kymco City Agility 50 2013 - Not charging
« on: May 10, 2020, 05:43:47 PM »
Hi fellas,
New to the forum so bare with me. I just bought this bike for my daughter. When we bought it it was barely running so I had to adjust the carburator and thought that was it.
Soon after that i realized it wasn't charging the battery and found that the rectifier and regulator was missing(!). Prevoius owner had no idea it was missing as his kids had just used it to mess around their cottage and charging it with an external charger when needed.
So I got a cheap regulator off of an online store (here in Sweden) and plugged it in as soon as it got here. Unfortunately it didn't help.

Tested so far:
- I measured the voltage from the stator, both yellow and white (pink by the regulator) are giving me at least 24-30VAC on idle and around 65VAC at higher revs. I later replaced it with a new one to be sure, the new one has the same results.
- There is one resistor in the loom and 2 fuses, they are all verified to be OK.
- I have stripped most of the loom and it appears to be in good condition. The ground connection to the frame also seems to be ok.
- During testing I have also disconnected all unnecessary equipment as headlight, rear-light, turning signals, horn etc. After starting the engine I have also disconnected starter engine, starter-relay, automatic-enricher etc.
- No less than 4 different batteries have been used. 2 of them are brand new, the others from working bikes (accepting charge).

I could really use some pointers going forward, let me know your experiences if you have had similar issues.

Kind regards,
Sverker

Three fuses show on wiring diagram for Agility 50, one 15 (or 12 amp) and two 7 amps. Bet the one missing is causing "charging interruption."

Hi Crossbolt, thank you for your input!
I haven’t seen a third fuse, I wonder where it’s at? Can you upload the wiring diagram if you have it please?
I have only found the diagram for Agility City 125 and it appears to be pretty much the same, except for a TPS that I don’t think is on the 50cc.

CROSSBOLT, my Agility 50 wiring diagram shows only the two 7A fuses.  Where do you see that 15A fuse on your wiring diagram? Thanks

Well, there is actually a third fuse (0,8A) that fuses the 12VDC socket in the glove compartment. Forgot about that, sorry. Although it has been checked (and for testing purposes) been both connected and disconnected. Still no charge I am afraid.

There must be several configurations of wiring for the 50 and I happened to find the one with three fuses! Sorry..
Considering little fingers removed the reg/rect for no apparent reason, they may have altered other things as well. Could you jumper from rectifier output to battery temporarily just to prove the system works? Then find the disconnect in the wiring?
Manuals library app is where I found several for the 50.

Interesting.  My diagram shows only 2 fuses, both 7A, yours shows the 2 of 7A plus a 15A and turbofolkan has the 2 of 7A plus a small one in the glove compartment  And my Agility 50 has no glove compartment.
Karl, are you recommending checking regulator voltage output?
