Did it again...
« on: June 30, 2020, 08:05:05 PM »
Washed the scoot after 7 hot hrs playing with a new, stuck shut clutch...
Wouldn't start.
Tripped the kill switch while washing it....
Gave myself a needless thrilll.

I just put in a new AGM battery in my GV this morning.  I never use the kill switch just turn off the key. Well evidently I pushed the kill switch and was cranking for a little while and it didn't start. Discovered it was in the wrong position as well.

What do you think caused the clutch to stick?
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

I know the feeling. Spent hours trying to get my Honda Melody running last week, cleaning the carb and cursing the vacuum fuel tap.

When, in reality, there was no fuel in the tank and the spark plug cap wasn't on properly.

Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

And how many times have we all done that?....  On a par with getting all kitted up in one piece rainsuit for a wet ride only to discover you left the bike key in your leathers under the rompersuit!  Aaargh!

Pretty certain it was the rubber seals. They had taken a hold on the shaft of the clutch - ?? too many years baking and freezing in my garage. And no idea how long this part had been on the shelf in the Portland, OR shop.

At $100, it is I think the very first part I've worn out on this scooter. 16000, 8yrs. Not bad.
Couple of tires, plugs, oils & gas - that's it..
Brake pads, air filter, light bulbs, body panels, etc., etc.
still original.

Waiting on a silicone o-ring to put my newly aquired Xicting back together. Went all over town trying to find one before giving up and ordering on ebay.
Had to take the fuel pump out and trying to get the old o-ring back in wasn't going to happen.  The thing had expanded and was like a inch worm trying to get it back in place.

Mine is more along the lines of getting ready for a ride in the harsh Scottish summer (= Layers. Lots of layers)

...and then......

Aw Cheezus wept, I only went half an hour ago.

Lol. Yes, been there too. Can also recall winter rides when a pee stop required the deployment of tweezers and a magnifying glass...
