Tires that are made but not available in USA
« on: July 18, 2020, 08:06:45 AM »
Because of recommendations on this forum I looked for Michelin City grip for one of my scoot's. 140/70-16. The tire is readily available in Italy and France but not here. Will look into Pirelli angels as a alternative.
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

Sold-32 Kymco scooters of various sizes this summer.

They should be pretty good tires.
I noticed some 2021 Vespas are coming shod with the Angels now - rather than the customary City Grips.
I laid in a set for my Liberty not long ago - for installation this winter.
That's my final big project on this scooter ( after learning to do the valves, and CVT servicing) - removing the rear wheel - fortunately it has a slip-on exhaust.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Try Heidenau----they have K-66 in the size you want.   Good tires from the former DDR.  I used the in my MZ days, now have one on my 2019 XTown 300i front and a new rear waiting.

Since scooters do not get ridden much here, most replacement is by age, not miles or actually worn out.

Got 14,000 out my rear City Grip...and at 16,000 changed out the front,  which was cupping too much for my liking.
As for scooter tires "aging:" out....has anyone ever had a tire failure on a scooter that would make that issue a realstic concern?

On the 2006 GV it only has 5500 miles.  The tire on the front has a large crack right below the rim the circumference of the tire from dry rot. Highway speed could lead to catastrophic tire failure.  I purchased this bike to use the engine on my People 250 project. The GV runs well but does not have a title . A lot depends on where the scooter resides when not being used. This GV has always been stored outside in the sun and the UV has destroyed the tires. My Lambretta with 2200 miles has lived most of it's life in a garage and the Michelin pilot tires look like new despite being almost the same age as the GV tires.

For the cost new fresh tires are worth it to me not to have a issue. I just purchased a Kymco 2009  250 Xicting RI with only 1900 miles on the clock but sat outside a lot.  Since I will be riding at highway speeds a new set of Michelin City grip or Pirelli angels will go on. A old expression comes to mind (penny wise pound foolish).
