Lowest MPG Scooter(my Agility may win)
« on: July 15, 2020, 12:18:05 AM »
Hi, what is the lowest mpg you have gotten on a scoot?

I have successfully managed to lower mine to 34mpg for the last 6 tanks. I have a 20 mile commute that goes through a fast section of the city with a ton of traffic lights. I do have a high flowing filter with a significant up-jet to match.

I'll be honest I've never checked. I know my 500 Xicting goes through gas like it's a charter member of OPEC.
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

Sold-32 Kymco scooters of various sizes this summer.

Never thought that was a contest I'd want to win.
Banging through town like that on the SYM I managed about 58.
On the burger I managed to get to about 38 once on a similar bang through town (following enthusiastic wife on her SYM).
My SYM did get about that bad when I had a carb issue, but that'd have to count the gas coming out the air cleaner and in the oil....

If ya really wanna compare you could check around here a bit.  I'm sure there's a 2T out there that has that beat.  It's not a good thing.

I am rather sad about it but with a small engine highway cruising and fuel economy don't go together.

My stock 2019 XTown 300i at 10,000 miles gets no lows but always 68-72MPG, reg or super.   My altime low record is my then new Harley 1966 sidecar outfit with winter windshield/tin leg shields into horrible north storm wind/snow storm=18 MPG!!  in Minnesota

True. I hardly ever go faster than 90km/h but the few times I was doing 100km/h and slightly faster, the Agility started drinking like a drunken sailor.

During normal commuting around town fuel consumption varies between 35 to 37 km per liter though - it all depends n at what speed I’m riding from time to time.
Life is a journey. Just spend some time, and enjoy the trip.

When your ride is getting really lousy MPG because it's leaking like a Nixon White House.....and you have to get 50 meters away to safely smoke....then you've matched the M37 Army truck I drove for several days during the Games in S.E. Asia.

During the end-times of my tour - all my gear was turned in, so I volunteered to make the daily mail runs. I pulled this shot-up 3/4 ton  from the batch of "Red-Lined" (broken) vehicles at the motor pool in our hosp. compound. I think they were made by Dodge? It was a ex-gun truck. I actually learned to drive in that truck! Never had'd anything but a motorcycle license.

My procedure was :  put out my Chesterfield, go like hades to outrun the mines*, serpentine fiercely to spoil their aim**….and carry jerry cans.

It musta worked.
Looked like this one, but armored sided bed, and no roof.

Stig

*seatmate on the flight home, an ordnance man, told me, "not possible to outrun a pressure mine". Glad I was dumb to that.
** and this behavior did not make me a popular road-mate with the indigenous population.

I got a solid 60mpg on my S200 crossing the country mostly WOT using stock rollers/sliders.
It didn't do much differently, banging around town when I got here either.

Have you made any changes to your rollers, or carb jetting?
Does it get OK MPG when you're not WOT stop and go all the way?
Do ya smell gas a lot (other than chili day) like Stig notes below?
If not...maybe you should change out the rollers to flatten the curve a bit and see if that helps; albeit it may also be that you'd want to upgrade to a Like or Super 8 (or a People even)
Still small bikes but I don't recall anyone reporting them being too bad on the highways.

With a UNI foam filter the carb required a 115 main jet as opposed to stock 102. Also stage 1 valve train mods allow for a safe 7,600rpm cruise.

Stig, I take it the M-37 was made after the M-35 2.5 ton? Definitely agree with the gas guzzling capabilities. Our M-35 was a multi fuel but we primarily ran diesel.

As a medic, I don't really know that much about Army truck numbers. Used photo search today to figure out what my 3/4 ton was called.....and yours was of course always referred to as a "deuce-and-a-half".
Pretty certain my 3/4 was gas...….sure reeked of it. Big leak coming back towards me from somewhere on the engine block I think, because it would work its way onto the right side floor board.

We both survived about half a dozen trips over a 10 day period.

Guess that'd do it.
