Starting issues

I have a 2009 super 8 150 I put in a new carb because the old one went bad. I got it idling well and it has good rpm.

The problem is when it sits it takes a while to get started like 10-30 sec holding down the start button.  It will run and drive great and start right up after that but if it sits for a couple hours its hard to start again.

Any ideas?

so it doesn't start easily when cold?...but runs fine otherwise?...the auto bystarter may not be working properly

Yes runs quite well once I get it warmed up.  Is that different than the autochoke which is also new with the carb.

How can I test it to see if its working?

I think the basic test is to remove it from the carb, measure how far the needle is protruding, add 12V power to it and after a few minutes it warms up and the needle should extend a bit.

i'd do an internet search on 'how to test an auto bystarter' and you should get a ton of hits...OK, I just did and lots of results pop up.

Something else you could do is swap out the bystarter from your old carb to see if that one works with your new carb.

I am going to try your suggestions tonight but from doing some research I saw someone noticed that his kymco super 8 was wired backwards from factory so he had to switch the wires around on the auto choke im thinking that could also be my issue? Most scooters are AC and mine is DC so maybe the auto choke is wired up for ac if that is even a thing lol?

not sure about the wiring of the auto choke...but yes, valve adjustment is another thing to look for when you have hard starting. Sounds like you have the skills to get this figured out. Usually just a matter of determining what could be the causes and eliminating those one by one.

You may have the CDI (Capacitive Discharge Ignition) confused with the auto bystarter. CDI can be either AC or DC. Auto bystarter is just a heating element device so not picky about type of current as far as is practical. I think there is no polarity involved so not likely to be hooked up backwards. There IS a resistor in that circuit that most don't think about. The auto bystarter will not work if that resistor is open.

Ok guys problem is solved upon further investigation I found two missing vacuum lines so now I need to find out if they were missing before I got the new carb or if they took them off and didn't put them back im surprised it was running so good once it started lol.

Who actually installed this carburetor ? You initially mentioned “I put in a new carb” but in your last post you were referring to “they” .
Hopefully a scooter mechanic at a scooter shop was not responsible for such dodgy work ?

Sorry for the confusion someone installed it for me its more of a side business he came recommended well but apparently not.  It's hard to find anyone to work on these things if there not a honda.  But I have learned a lot about my bike and feeling a lot more comfortable working on it now.
