2007 XCiting 500 seems to run a bit warm

Hello all,

Got an XCiting 500 project which had a bad head gasket.  I replaced the cylinder, rings and new stem seals.  Of course all the gaskets involved.  I fully flushed out the cooling system and put new 50/50 coolant.  I had to jump the fan as the relay doesn't seem to work right (low voltage output).  Being this is a new to me (non runner), I am unsure of proper temps.  A/F seems to be controlled by the ECU or I would have richened it up a little.  I may have air in the cooling system but I squeezed the hoses (cap off) to verify that, maybe there is a better way.  Oh, it has a new thermostat and seal as well.  Valves adjusted to spec.

Any suggestions?  The needle is about 3/4 almost to the red when idling.  Throttle up seems to help.

That does seem to be indicating hot. Are you leaving it running long enough for the 'stat to open so that if there is any trapped air, it should purge?

If so, then it could be a duff temp sender. You have replaced the head and rings and whatnot and in doing so may have inadvertently upset the sensor. It sits in the head and could be reading wrong. Its a relatively cheap part:

and in the absence of being able to plug a diagnostic tool in, if it were me I would start by replacing that and then see if that addresses it.

Thanks for the reply.  You can feel the engine and exhaust feel hotter than normal. Especially since I have all the plastics off.  I'll see if I can burp the air out better, those hoses get hot as well.  I also don't like how they routed the coolant hose so close to the exhaust header.  I'm going to wrap the header as well.
