K-pipe engine decision

my kpipe went tic tic tic, lost all its power and died, discovering there was no oil, don't even want to waste my time doing top end, just going to replace with a crate motor

at the same time bump from 125cc to 140cc, but, no 140cc e-start/std trans available, a month ago, before I was serious, there were several, now only semi-auto,  or bump up to 190cc

this is my decision, buy 140cc semi auto, direct bolt in, except I lose my clutch, or a 190, I will also have to replace exhaust, and fiddle with wiring, the 190 will also give me a 5 spd

either way, I'm adding an oil cooler

What does new engine cost in US?    Might be better to find complete bike in running condition.

crate motor =  140cc $500± 190cc $900±

add another $75 for an oil cooler, not sure how much for an exhaust for the 190, but I fabricated a complete 2 into 1 exhaust for my V-strom for less than $100

find a bike in running condition?, I wouldn't trust a good motor, that's how I got into this situation to begin with, I bought a complete good running bike, but that was a year and a half ago,  bikes are hot in the US right now, dealers are depleted stocks, new bikes are gone, not many used ones, my local dealer has filled up the showroom with snowmobiles 2 months earlier than usual

thanks, I want a new unused, un-abused engine

even the 140 would be a 30% bump in power  from 8hp to 12hp, a 2 valve 190, puts out about 17hp, or spend even more $$ (1400±) for a 4 valve 190 and get 24hp

Your money your choice,  my 1972 Yamaha 250 Enduro put out 23 hp in a full size frame and was very strong. The 72 DT-2 was also my first new bike.

This might be the wise thing to do. No modifications to the exhaust or electronics to make it work.

no to rebuild, or maybe no one caught the first sentence of my original post, it ran without oil, I do not have faith in the bottom end, if I did, the top end would be done by now, that is why I am looking for a crate motor, it is cheaper than rebuilding

I also consider value of my time when comparing cost, something that would take me 4 hours if I was proficient, but in reality will take me 10 hours is more cost effective to pay someone $400.  I am retired, but my income is not fixed by ay means, I take on small jobs

I've been himmin and hawwmin and taken more of my (valuable)time than I should, I should just take part of Tim the Toolman's advice and get the Zongshen 2 valve 190, instead of the Daytona 4 valve 190

I've been contemplating a similar situation with  Kymco People 250 S with a bad crankshaft.  The rebuild kit is $469. which includes piston, cylinder,  crankshaft, bearings and gaskets so yes I took the bottom end into consideration.  My other option was to use a 250 motor out of a donor scooter.  Sounds like a replacement motor is your cheapest option when you consider time. 

I'll probably wait until the dead of winter to work on my project so time isn't that important to me.

from what I am learning, what once was the most popular engine in the world, the horizontal 90cc engine grew to 110cc, then 125cc, now 140cc, and a dozen or more configuration packages kick start, electric start, semi-automatic, standard, with reverse, universal for pit bikes atvs, with belt drive for scooters. The 190cc is more of a race motor,  I'm leaning toward the 190, mostly, cause it is a 5spd, and conventional 1down, 4up pattern, I think the 140 has sufficient power to satisfy my wants, I don't care if I struggle to go much faster than 60, the 125 stock motor struggles to do 50 with my body mass, but being able to go 75 won't scare me

I bought another Kymco 250 scooter same year for the engine and not sure it will fit  Grandvista 250 to People S 250. I beleive my People S is the same design as the newer 300 since the covers will interchange. So I might end up rebuilding my motor on the People S if it doesn't fit.

the common Honda CF style pit bike engine bolts into a K-pipe with no adaptors, is all I know,  and wire harness plugs right in, so long as it is electric start, so I am told,  I am nervous about this engine, cause they refer to it as a dirtbike engine, instead of pit bike engine
