Spade 150 oil type
« on: February 08, 2021, 04:43:46 PM »
I don't have the book yet for my Spade 150, but my understanding from researching is that the book says to put "Kymco oil" in it, but doesn't specify the weight. Anyone know what type to use? I put 10W-40 motorcycle oil in, because someone online said that worked for them. Hope that was okay. :P

I use WalMart house brand 10-40-----has worked for over 500,000 2 wheel miles---from BMW K-75,, Kawasaki Concours, TU250-GS500E Suzuki---2 Miatas, Mitsuibishi Mirage--11 Maxi scooters----never engine trouble and I ride a lot-----motorcycles no clutch slip.   I, however believe in frequent oil changes.

yes, with a motorcycle with a manual transmission and wet clutch (like your Spade) you should use a motorcycle specific oil. 10W-40 is a very common grade for motorcycles (that's what my Kawasaki uses).

For the rest of us with scooters that have a dry clutch we can use any regular old oil!

I use Rotella T6 15w-40 in both my motorcycle and my scooter.
Rotella T6 (full synthetic) and T4(conventional) are both rated for wet clutch motorcycles.
The semi-synthetic blend may not be suitable for wet clutches.
Some people avoid Rotella because it is a "diesel oil", but it is actually a multi-purpose oil.

I run the Rotella T6 in my UVX 450, and I am sure it would be great in motorcycles/scooters too. It's cheap for a full synthetic, comes in gallon jugs at Walmart and has all the required JASO certs for running in cycles.
