Wind-chill when riding w/o a screen....
« on: January 10, 2021, 07:47:11 PM »
Wind Chill: "What the temperature feels like to your body."

Rode out at 19°F. Speedo said @36MPH. So, that's actual @32-33MPH.

Riding that speed, with a temperature of 19°F.....*

Well, it's best if you don't think about it there Major....

Decorations on this shed in a farm field caught my eye - and let me deal with my nose again.

Everybody has their habits - I almost never fully close my face shield; and if I do - it's only for a short distance.
Major Tom

And I swear temps will drop a degree of 2 in the low areas...had face shield sometimes frost over on the inside.
-0.6°F
-18.1°C

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

My rule of thumb for a long ride: temperature must be >10c. For a quick (up to 15 mile round trip) dash to shop: >5c

Works for me [emoji23]

I have 25km to work, highway mostly, so over 100kmh,  I ride always without screen, the coldest it was, was around 0° C, idk how much is that in F.
But I ride with hand guards whole winter, dont have heated grips or gloves, so this helps a lot.

Get yourself some heated grips. Total game changer! Best accessory I've ever bought for my scooter. Bar none.

No, but remember - I'm out riding when normal people are still in their jammies.
Once again ......it is almost a zen-like thing to be out when no one else is.....

I remember when I was young I had a Wichita Eagle paper route. It was my first experience being up when the rest of the world wasn't.

Ah memories.! From age 13 to 21 I worked at a newsagents first doing paper rounds then later “marking up” the rounds. It’s maybe those 8 years of being up at 5am which makes me value my bed early mornings these days?
