I was 19, wife was 18 - we started our married life with Honda motorcycles in southern California....and then Massachusetts.
We watched so many of our young friends struggling with car repair bills....and kind of swore off car ownership.
For less than the cost of a major auto repair - we could own a reliable new Honda motorcycle.

We shopped, dined out, traveled and..... played two-up on a Honda.
Now that we were ready to start a family after I returned from Vietnam, we decided that only one make of automobile made any sense at all.
It had to be an air-cooled VW - and for a family, one model made the most sense.

Our Bus was just like this one - red with white roof. (starting a decades long affair with VWs)

My first transportation was a 98cc NSU Fox which I rode to school in 1956.
After hitting a car that ran a red light (it destroyed my forks - no damage to me), I bought a '47 Chevrolet car.
It was years before I bought my next motorcycle, a 1968 Yamaha DT-1.
After a dozen or so motorcycles through the years, I traded my Kawasaki KLR-650 for my 2019 Like 150i ABS and never looked back.

No, different stages and pursuits in life required different transportation.  I'm enjoying getting back into riding at this stage.
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

Sold-32 Kymco scooters of various sizes this summer.

Yes. For most of my adult life while working I only owned a 'bike (or 2).  Latterly I did have the use of a work "pool" car and even more latterly a company car.

Never really missed one and to this day I can go into paroxysms of delight over bikes & scooters whilst remaining singularly unmoved by four wheelers!

It's a very real addiction  [emoji848]

my first car was a Beetle, but I had a Honda 90 prior to owning a car

I learned to drive very young, tractors, farm trucks (that didn't have syncro gears), on farm roads, most of the time towing hay, so I also learned to back up a trailer, or wagon, at very young age, 9-10 years old ? before I even had a bicycle.

By the time I got to drivers ed, bout the only new thing I learned, was parallel parking

No, I grew up on a farm, started driving tractors, trucks and cars at a very young age - and I always deamed of owning a car.
But having grown up on a farm there was not much to do and I kept myself busy riding a bicycle. So I started dreaming about owning a motorcycle. To this day the itch never disappeared.
Life is a journey. Just spend some time, and enjoy the trip.
