Wont Start
« on: March 21, 2021, 06:06:36 PM »
Okay so I have the Kymco people 300 2013

I have a battery newish from September.. Now I tried to start the thing after not using for a couple of months (5 to be exact). Nothing happened I kept trying it lights are on there's gas, the battery seems fine. Just to double-check maybe the battery didn't have enough power hooked it up to the car tried to start it and silence. I turned the kill switch ON (thought it was faulty) obviously it didnt start, turned it off, same thing. No noise at all. Not sure what to do now. OR if I need a new spark plug, starter or anything I'm not sure where to go. I am not a car guy I am smart enough to look at a manual and tinker but I'm no mechanic. I can do this stuff myself just dont know where to look for parts or what troubleshooting I should do, besides the basics of what I already attempted. Can anyone help me or let me know if I need to provide any more information.

Thanks :)

okay so i saw the other post for the Powersports to get parts, But I and not to sound like a complete idiot have no idea after searching where those parts would be located (I have never really worked on any mechanics other than changing the oil and tires on a car and oil on my Kymco lol)

What does "no noise" mean? No starter noise, no cranking noise or no running noise? Or no all three noise?

Key on before start sequence:
1. Key on
2. Speedo goes full scale back to zero.
3. Fuel pump runs for short time (2 seconds).
4. All symbols light up on instruments, all symbols display on LCD.
5. All symbols go dark, LCD displays fuel state and cold temp.
6. Head light, tail light, side lights come on. Turn signals armed.
Key on start sequence
1. Start button pushed, starter immediately spins engine.
2. Engine fires after second revolution (noermally) and runs.

I know you know this last part! What we do know at this point is the lights are on, no starter spin, no fuel pump noise. Need you to tell if that other stuff is on or not. The kill switch and sidestand switch just kills the ECU. The starter should spin.

Would prevent starter turning but not fuel pump prime.

Okay, and thank you for breaking it all down, Im trying to explain it correctly haha. Um so I can get to number 6. Everything seems good, press the start button and nothing happens. All the lights are on, the blinker works, LCD is showing everything it usually does, fuel, the battery light is on briefly to signal I am running on the battery. I have the key on ignition but Im I guess at this point the starter does not spin.

So (since its relatively cheap and we just did get those nice stimmy's) I wanted to start by replacing the Starter. Again I have the Kymco People 300, 2013. I have done some googling on the starters and I get some options but nothing specifically says its for the Kymco people (which I assumed would happen) and I just dont know what a good purchase for the starter would be.

Since the engine-trans units are the same People GT300i/Downtown 300i the starters are probably the same. Impossible to tell generally from parts lists but it may be used in several models 250 to 350 cc. However, would it not make more sense to isolate the exact cause of the problem before ordering parts?

But try to bridge your starter motor before you buy a new one like (pls see pics)to make sure its the starter, which is faulty.
