Lost ¾ Quart Oil In 10 Miles
« on: April 13, 2021, 02:55:39 AM »
Went for short ride after an oil change.  A few miles in noticed oil all over the floorboard, came out of vent under front of seat.  Headed straight home. Oil was dripping everywhere underneath.  Drained what was left, got about ¼ quart.  Scoot ran smooth and quiet with good acceleration.  It's a 2018 w 16k miles  (15k put on by me).
Any thoughts?

Wanted a Kymco, ended up w a Lance, but that forum is inactive, so I am here

What scooter is this ?
I am not sure, but if the scooter has a mesh oil filter at the big drain plug and you did not put it back in place there is a chance that the oil pump could pump the oil too fast through the system.
Maybe the oil leak is at the valve cover gasket ?

 This was your CaliClassic?
Other than the oil change - has it had any other servicing before this happened?
Oil on top of the engine ?
Was the dip stick put back in ?
Oil all over the engine?....
With the seat off and engine running -- look for where it's coming from. Valve cover loose?

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

It's the Cali Classic.  Pretty sure I put in about 3 oz too much oil.  Sounds like that can cause the valve cover gasket to fail, maybe other seals as well?

Lots of oil was spitting out of the vent in front of the valve cover, and underneath the scoot was covered in oil as well.
The valve cover gasket is fairly thick silicon?  I could not see any obvious leak points.  Took it to the dealer, they thought it probably needed replacing at 3½ years/ 16k miles anyway.  They suggested HondaBond or silicon gasket sealer, as OEM part had to be ordered.

Going to try that route and hope there are no other leak points.
Not having any success loading pics, I'll try again.
The dipstick and oil mesh filter were both in place.
