Interesting.
Might that have to do with Covid causing severe importation problems? Can't get new out of the ports, so buying used?
Tempted to move out some of the fleet in your motor pool?

Stig basically everything I have is for sale for the right price, except the Collies.  Will probably sell some of the scooters keeping the cream of the crop.  With 8% inflation everything will go up so will used prices.  Was talking with Dan* and he orders his Yamaha's for the next year in July and it will be interesting to see the price increase.  His sales floor is basically empty except for a few used bikes and his private collection.  I think fuel will keep going up as well.

If you want a sense of where used bike prices have gone, consider this: three years ago my son bought a used 2006 Honda CRF230 dirt bike for $1,500. He just sold it for $2,700. How does a 15 year-old bike that was ridden hard double in price?!?!?

I also dropped two bicycles yesterday for tune-ups at the local bike shop. I asked the owner how business is and his answer was, "It would be better if I had bikes to sell." He literally has not a single bicycle in stock and said he cannot get any. He said parts are scarce too.

The world has gone mad.

As long as the Fed printing press is running in hyper drive you will have inflation.

I think increases in sales of scooters and bicycles and other modes of lower priced (to operate) vehicles, as well as their sales prices, is mostly due to gas price increases. That's a familiar song.

And where in the USA is this 8% inflation increase? I know that inflation for gas during the month of March and April (each) at WAY over 8%. But the overall average for the previous 12 months is still under 2.5%, and the overall average for just April 2021 is 4.2%. With 10 out of the previous 12 months being below 2% starting last May at .1%. It's just certain individual industries, like fuel and travel related items, that have skyrocketed compared to the previous 12 months. Still not the highest rates seen in the last 20 years for many items. Inflation is up overall due to the economy trying to restart after the Pandemic. But a blanket 8% figure needs a bit of definition.

You mean we can't lift people out of poverty simply by printing money and sending out stimulus checks?

The subject was used scooters prices. According to Inflation data .Com  used car prices have risen 21% from last year and 10% in April of this year alone.
Other things like food 4.2%,  gas 49.6%  and the biggie (lumber  252% -USA Today)  are not in that figure.

The purchase and operation of V-8 powered wooden cars has become an unobtainable luxury for far too many Americans.

I think a lot of what's driving used vechicle prices is the unavailability of new vehicles.

Stig- I know I won't be purchasing new and will just maintain my current fleet.  I have a new vehicle fund (invested in market Equity Fund) and use some of the interest to maintain vehicles without touching the principal.

My ego was crushed years ago and buying new is just not important to me.  Now if I can just find a used  Bentley Mulsanne speed in my price range. ::)

It's not just new vechicle prices you have to consider.  Where I live sales tax is 9.25%,  Insurance cost for new vehicle and the biggie here is personal property tax that  you pay every year.

That 2.5% inflation rate (or 4%) is in the way "they" compute it. "They" keep changing the formula to hide true inflation. "They" are the banks and bankers, the Fed Reserve primarily. This "funny money" scheme is a very old one from Nimrod of early Babylon before Noah and the big flood. Nimrod was the first in fractional reserve scheme and worthless scarabs for currency. Made him rich but swindles the people. Federal Reserve just perfected it with computers. It still swindles everyone but the top.
