Stig gets proper boots! - ICON w/D-3O & BOA closure system
« on: April 23, 2021, 08:17:30 PM »

Rider here who hates lacing up boots. Ordinarily that would mean going to velcro closures. (which could get you beat-up even in a nursing home)

These things have a BOA closure system. Snap it open to remove the boot; snap it shut and twist to secure the boot. I can keep my attention down there that long, surely?
No laces, no velcro. Ankles have D-3O polymer armor in them.

Finally will have proper protective footwear which I'll actually wear on every ride.

STORMHAWK from ICON.
Good fit. Size 14. Leather so they will fit even better after a few weeks.
First thing I've purchased in awhile that wasn't NOS - these are from December, 2020.

Not very high.  Are they waterproof?   Lug soles in my experience track mud.

I've had electronic equipment that didn't come with an owner's manual this thick.

Best thing about these EU Certified, CE rated Person Protection Equipment boots?

I'll wear them.

@Stig, do you need to join a safety class of, let's say, five hours at your local MOT office before you're entitled to wear this boots?

Ruffus,
The scary thing about using the roadways in Ohio - if you can get your vehicle rolling downhill you are free to join the circus on the streets.
We have no safety inspections, no MOT, no environmental checks on your engine emissions....and if you can be propped up for a photo you'll never have your license taken away.

We use Herd Crashing to regulate things....but with a lot of collateral sadness.

@Stig, ha ha, "Herd Crashing" I love this expression. We here in old Europe still fooling around with this "herd immunity" thing. Yeah, as always said, You in the US of A are far ahead.

"Herd Crashing" IS "herd immunity" in a certain sense.
If enough people crash hard enough there won't be any more accidents due to lack of people to crash any more. Problem solved. Just stay outa the way while it's getting to that point.

Back to the boots Stig, are those “laces” wire?  Will they cut into the leather over time? Guess they must’ve thought that one through!...

Yep, some sort of coated metal lace. The BOA system has a lifetime guarantee.....which at my stage of life - is more than adequate.
I like how - when I tension the laces by turning the knob - the closing pressure (or whatever) is spread so evenly. No tight spots over the arch. It is due to the frictionless bits in the lacing system I think. Those mid-boot tabs have the same hard glide things inside them.
Comfortable ~!
Push-Mowed* my MIL's yard for 2.5 hrs yesterday while wearing them.....and watched Nomadland and 2 episodes of The Crown in them.....forgetting they're on my feet.

Will be taking the LIKE200i out with the new pants and boots tomorrow morning.

*as soon as my 88yr o. FIL recovers from his Covid hospitalization/rehab  - we're going to have a little chat about swapping out the mower he keeps in his garden shed for a self-propelled job if I'm going to be doing the yardwork. His mower is like pushing a couch across the yard!
