report 1st ride with the new Nolan
« on: July 02, 2021, 06:25:43 PM »

Helmet is XXXL large like my previous Nolan - and fit is very snug.
I feel well-protected in there!
It IS lighter than the previous one - and I do not feel it catching in the wind as much*.
(when storing away the old helmet into the new helmet's carton - it barely fit!)

Ventilation is good and it's easier to open and close the 2 vents.

Most noticeable thing was how clear the face visor is!
Never realized how many tiny scratches my old helmet has picked up while riding.

Quiet?....all my helmets are quiet because I always ride with 3M yellow foam ear-plugs in!

Hope to ride into the horizon with this equipment : the Liberty & LIKE200i; new helmet, new boots, new armored pants, hi viz armored jackets and leather ICON gloves.

Stig
* since I never ride more than 40mph - not much wind resistance going on anyway :)

Stig I make up for it, I very seldom ride below 40 mph. I've made myself slow down on the back roads to 65 mph.
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

Sold-32 Kymco scooters of various sizes this summer.

I understand - lots of folks ride that way. (well, actually - I don't understand it. At those speeds I not only wouldn't be smelling the roses - I wouldn't even be seeing them!) :)

Thought I ought to break out my new (well, I've had it in storage since last year!) HJC and christen it with a ride out today.  It wouldn't fit you Stig as it's only an XL or 62 cms!  I find the fit and noise levels in the HJCs suit me, as does the price point.  This one is an HJC FG-ST Crucial or at least that's the name it was marketed under here in the UK.  Next Sale round will need to be a replacement for my aging system helmet - Maybe a Nolan?

l started with a white HJC Modular xxxxl.
Nice helmet. Fit my long oval head....nothing else did. My dealer has hundreds.
Nolan makes 2 shell sizes, and the XXXL fits me nicely.
Noise?? All helmets are noisy...and do not adeqiately protect hearing from over-pressure according to doctors.
I reckon that bike-doms best helmet isn't as quiet as i am with my 3M ear plugs.
I can still hear cars overtaking me. ...so really recommend ear plugs. Part of my advanced medic training was doing OJT in the post's EENT clinics.

I've not ridden a motorcycle or scooter in over 30 years without earplugs in place!  My best plugs were two sets of moulded plugs made to measure by our NHS Hearing Aid department.  Something they did for Police Motorcyclists and I piggy-backed onto that scheme!  I'm reduced to a commercial company's product now, but so far, I've found them to be excellent at reducing wind noise.  Interestingly I had my hearing tested in 2019 and was told it was "superb" for my age!  So, wear 'em, they do the job!

Currently out of stock at the manufacturers, but I see if I want to pay a £20 premium, I can source some:  https://www.scottcurrieltd.com/product/flare-isolate-mini-aluminium-earplugs/?attribute_colour=Natural&utm_source=Google%20Shopping&utm_campaign=Google%20Shopping&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=23457&gclid=CjwKCAjwo4mIBhBsEiwAKgzXOO7PbASL3EYNot8Nm1eafzALYQnCnB5huTeAUlLa7bl__0JYN4XCDhoC3GYQAvD_BwE
