Helmet paint fixing

I have Marushin black helmet, that has scratch in its black paint, I would like to polish away. With what? Its an open model, the wind wissles when driving visir up, need to check that too.
 Dont want to buy new yet.

for small scratches I use (don't laugh) nailpolish.
Is available in any shade and covers pretty well.

They make a clear plastic polish. I use it on my pitted windscreens. The one I'm currently using Meguiars Plastic X.  I use a little 5" ramdom order electric buffer. If the scratches are through the paint Ruffus idea sounds like a good fix.
