Speedometer
« on: August 22, 2021, 01:12:12 PM »
Took off the other day and was doing 80 kph in my neighborhood.  No way.  I stopped and the speedometer read 40 kph at rest.

Returned home and parked it.  Still 40 kph turned off.

Is the speedometer spring loaded in some way?

Speedometer still works but reads 40 kph high.

Any thoughts?

Cable drive from front wheel? Mechanical? Repair or replace speedo if yes.

Don't blame the RED People S - they look fast even when parked :)

Once I started the engine before the speedometer needle finished it's sweep (from full left to right and back). Needle stuck where it was when I started motor. Fixed it by turning on ignition again and letting the needle complete it's strange journey left and right and it "fixed" itself. Ever since then I let it speedo needle do it's thing before starting. 44800-KFA something "gearbox" on front wheel tells me it is a mechanical speedo....so I vote for a busted speedometer. Repair or replace..

44830 is the part number for speedometer cable.

This isvall from Kymco parts online parts drawings for unknown year of that model. Now the S200 may have a later upgrade with an electronic speedo...

My  200S has a mechanical drive for the speedometer but does the needle sweep  speedometer test when you turn on.
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

Sold-32 Kymco scooters of various sizes this summer.

Yes, mine does the sweep also so there is something electrical in there along with the cable drive.
The last few times I started Scarlette, the sweep returning toward "0", may go all the way to "0" or it may stop at "10" or "25" kph.  Kind of random reset.

Maybe a critter living in the meter?

Just to follow up, the speedometer is continuing to work fine.

Just a glitch I guess.
