Horsepower vs. Weight
« on: October 09, 2021, 12:57:23 AM »
If one scooter has 19 horsepower and weighs 350 lbs. and another has 13 hp and weighs 250, would the first be much faster than the second, roughly?

interesting - you are almost exactly describing my Helix vs my People S200! Only my S200 has a few less than the 13 hp.

I think my S200 is faster off the line but the Helix would quickly catch up and pass it. The Helix also has a 10-15 mph higher top speed and has a better mid range acceleration.

I think the real answer is probably...'it depends'. The power to weight ratio is pretty similar...it probably comes down to gearing and other things....and are you talking about faster to 30? Highest top speed?

which one has best aerodynamics and or lowest frontal area ? will probably determine which is fastest

I can change my top speed by 20mph by going from a tuck position to sitting up straight on my K-Pipe

Theoretically the 250# scooter has 15.6# per HP and the 350# scooter has 18.4# per HP  so the lighter scooter should be faster, all other factors being equal.

Example my 250 Xiciting is about as fast to 60 as my 500 Xiciting.  The 500 has taller gearing so it keeps on accelerating when the 250 with the lower gearing is topped out.

I was surprised when I rode a little 50cc Kymco.  It accelerated better then I thought it would but quit pulling before 30 mph.  Gearing makes a big difference.
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

Sold-32 Kymco scooters of various sizes this summer.
