450i front bumper/brush guard
« on: October 01, 2021, 04:57:08 PM »
I'm looking for a way to remount my winch higher, or a pulley, so that my winch lifts my snowplow, rather than straining the rope from the low stock angle

or any other suggestions

Thought about the same thing a few times...not sure there is a spot on the front of our machines I would trust a pully mount.  Not long ago, while browsing another atv forum, I saw a posting with a pully mounted on the plow frame itself, the line goes thru the pully and attaches to the plow frame, this allows the line to be pulled higher up for a more straight line pull into winch drum.  Thought that might be a good option.  On my machine I retained the roller fairlead even with my synthetic cable. Now my attach point is a midmount to my pivot point is further back than a front mount olow.  I have not had any issues so no hurry to change things, but I do think about a better way often...  I like the idea of attaching a pully to the plow frame so it would stay with the plow and not have another something to put on and take off.   If I were still using a steel cable, I would definetly want to change the angle of pull, but the synthetic rope doesnt care.

I broke my synthetic rope at least a dozen times last winter, I'm tempted to sh!tcan the winch lifted plow, and spend the cake on a hydraulic Fisher Vplow,    being able to change the angle of the plow on the fly is a game changer  from my experience plowing with a pickup truck

I will have to take a good look at what I can do, my fabrication skills and tools are limited, #1 limitation is that I don't have a welder of any type, and if I did, I don't know how to weld.

synthetic ropes are great as long as they dont get any abrasion, using them in rocks and such can shorten their life.  I dont use mine in abrasive areas and didnt like the cable if it broke danger.  Had a close call with a steel cable that broke!!  My cable was all bent up from just using my plow a few times so it came off.  I do use my winch on the trails, so wouldnt want to go without one.
Wire welders are easy to use, my stick welding abilities are limited but I have friends and neighbors that can weld.  Basicall the article showed an arm raised above the frame mount with a pulley on the top so the rope comes up from the plow frame, over the pully then back down to the winch. Height of arm depends on how high winch is mounted to get a straight pull. Hey...you got to dobwhat is best for your situation but those power plows are mighty expensive!  They triedvto sell me one when I bought my machine back in 2015, it was 3400 back then...ouch!!

$3995 irc, wouldn't buy it though, unless it's transferable to another unit, it this point, it would be worth more than my 7 year old 450i. While my 450i is still a beast of a workhorse, it might be time to relax it's duties,
