Downtown 350 idle speed 2300-2500 RPM
« on: April 07, 2022, 04:53:33 AM »
Hey all, hope this is the right place for this post.
My downtown 350 had a problem with the idle speed that caused the engine to push when standing, it was around 2700-3000 RPM most of the time, and had to pull the breaks at red lights.
The mechanic had a rough time finding the problem and after the last big service (30K) it looks like the pushing problem is gone, but the idle speed is still really high (around 2300-2500 RPM).
What can be the cause?

Does not sound like your mechanic solved much.

Did it ever idle around 1600 to 1700 rpm? What year model? How many miles? What, if any service issues to date? How much slack in throttle?

1) Do a Idle Speed Controller reset.

Put the bike on centre stand
Twist back the throttle
Turn the ignition on
Wait 8 seconds
Release the throttle
Turn the ignition off then on.

Other reasons include an air leak around the intake (unlikely) or poorly adjusted throttle (the throttle needs a bit of play/looseness).
