Stall of Shame (C) Crossbolt
« on: August 02, 2022, 12:46:52 PM »
The knowledgeable Crossbolt noted some time ago:
"Wolf, you have described a situation of vacuum operated fuel tank vent valve sticking. That "whoosh" was air entering the fuel tank. Because that valve is stuck shut. It sticking is intermittent. Happens on many modern brands annd is not model specific. Had it happen first on a Buddy 150, Yager 200i and two(2) DT300i.

My solution is to vent the gas cap. The valve is so buried on a DT300i that venting the cap is way easier. I made a post with pictures way back. The "Stall of Shame" was coined by the Buddy forum."

It's happened to me a couple of times now with my X-Town 300i, interestingly on both occasions (2 years apart) I was on the same stretch of uphill road riding with a fully open throttle having filled my tank some 1-2 miles earlier!  Reason for posting is that on this occasion I'd just had the scooter serviced at a local workshop and if I hadn't been aware of Crossbolt's diagnosis (thanks Karl), I'd have blamed them and possibly been straight back there to have the bike ripped apart looking for a cause!

Have I since vented the cap?  No, of course not.  A little bit of character like that every couple of years I can live with, but if it ever becomes a frequent glitch...
Regards & ride safe,
Neil

I drilled out my cap, replaced the coil, gas, oil, gear oil, airfilter, spark plug, sparkplug wire and cap, fuel pump, cleaned the spaghetti of vent/vacuum lines, replaced the Chinese air in the tires with good old N American air.....looked in the CVT, took apart and cleaned the start and kill switches, talked to the belt & rollers, tried Techron, mountain dew, checked the brake pads, looked in the muffler, went to a different church, quit beef, gave it an Italian Tune Up x 4 and, finally...bought a red Honda.
And my LIKE200I LX still was prone to a very bad low speed stumble.
It was the TPS.
Fixed under warranty...months later...thanks to Karl and Mr Stone (Kymco customer service)
It just goes to show ya'....

Nope, these faults are not always obvious are they?
