Yep, been in that space several times since owning mine. I carry all 3 of the tools I need to remove the shield and brackets and front/top cover in less than 5 mins now.
Needed access to check the battery once. Then to replace the Battery Tender cable the dealer put in with a bigger wire gauge one that could handle 15 amps. Then again to install the electrical stuff when I added the flashing LED brake light and running light bar in the tail. Then again to locate the shield to the lower position (actually didn't need to remove the front/top cover for this).
The battery is in an unusual place compared with other bikes I've owned. But I don't consider this location to be all that much of a bother any more due to how easy it is to remove/install those bits now.
